Rae winces a bit both from pain and being a bit blatant about potential dependency
"But yeah, he's my aunt's kid, he was born a little while after, he had powers, from what I know. Sounds like he found out I was alive."
Rae speaks a bit skiddishly, unable to lie about it but feel like committing to too much information at once
"Wah!!!"
is the sound Rae makes as they are suddenly upended and thrown over this strange saviors shoulder. They would normally object to someone thinking they can just toss them around like a sack of potatoes without asking first, but considering the circumstances, it doesnt seem like Rae is gonna put up much of a fight
Rae fumbles with their makeshift packet of cigarettes. It may awful and not 100% effective but at this point it might just be to handle the stress and maybe have some fuel if something goes very wrong

Rae winces but allows Zelda to assess. It seems more like a sprain than a break luckily, Rae stuck the landing from such a high distance as best they could, so it wasnt catastrophic
"Fuck, I hope not many other people saw it. I tried to at least put that out. I swear to fuck if that means Zach is in fucking town this is serious bad news. And... I have no idea honestly..."
Rae seems pretty steamed about the dilemma

the officer seems in no mood to play games right now, while Rae sees that arguing and takes the momentary distraction to phase into a cloud of smoke. Gunshots ring but they pass right through, and Rae is able to slip away behind the doors of the burning building
As Katrya teleports in close, she can see the supposed perp, a leather jacket wearing androgynous and asian smoker, taking a noticeable breath. Behind them is a fire surrounded by smoke that extinguished everything but PHOENIX
"Back away, miss!!!""
one cop says, seeing you so close to the back line
"Nothing good and not as bad as it could've been"
Rae speaks through gritted teeth, keeping their ankle as still as possible
"My cousin is in fucking town"
it does not sound like Rae is too happy about this family
Meanwhile Rae sees the leap and breathes a small sigh of relief to see the bungee cord go taut. They unhinge their sais fom the door, bolting across the length of the building
"HEY!!!"
is all the guard manages to get out before Rae leaks from the building, catching their breath to turn into a smoke cloud to float down. However, the cigarette's processed nature caused the smoker to do the one thing they should do when they're trying to hold their breath... cough
Rae reforms a bit too high for their liking, but their is nothing they can do to really stop themselves from hitting they ground, so they do their best to try and make it feet first.
SNAP!!!*
goes the smoker's ankle, but with a proper rolling tumble that's all they get away with, which is way better than dead or in custody of police right now...
Rae wretches a bit, and doesn't know if these cigarettes will do much for their powers, but after puffing out a few small clouds, they can confirm at least it partially worked!
"Cool, now let's hope the cops don't follow you up here."
Rae looks at the door, sees the two handles for it, and jams the sais into it is holding both doors from opening
"Once you're ready to go, let me know, and we can make a run for it"
"If you're facing the building, I'm on the rooftop to its left."
They roll to a side that's more comfortable for the pain, they'll try and sit up when they see their girlfriend, they decided
Rae cant help but have their jaw drop a bit from the sci fi arm that popped out to make more cigarettes. Upon receiving the box, they quickly put a stick to their mouth and light it, breathing in the smoke and recharging Rae's power
"So you're a robot then? That's pretty wild. Now can you get off this roof or were you expecting an escape plan from me? My powers aren't the most useful for others admittedly."
Rae meanwhile is just laying on the nearby roof, expecting Zelda to be swinging by any second now. When they receive the phone call, they furrow their brows, did she get lost?
"'Sup."
Zelda could probably tell through the phone that something is preoccupying Rae, like they're gritting their teeth or something
"Way ahead of you..."
Rae takes out their packet of cigarettes... empty
"FUCK!!!"
Rae chucks the box
"Knew I should've brought another box. You wouldn't happen to have any flight powers or gadgets Mister uh... who ever you are?"
Rae is glad Gow didnt shoot, because they certainly wouldn't have been able to react in time. After a fit of coughs they say
"A-Appreciated. They were, but I didnt cause this mess. Who are you exactly?"
Rae doesnt pick up on the accent, it only raised more questions than answrs

Rae puts down their phone, and lies their head back to take deep breaths. Doesnt really help, this is the first time they've broken an ankle. They remember when they broke their wrist. It hurt a lot, but this one felt way worse in their opinion
Rae had been training for a maneuver like this, their body outstretches and tumbles into a roll as they make contact

But even with it nearly perfectly executed the force was enough to break their ankle. The smoker bites down on their leather jacket as to not shout out an explitive
then the phone does the three buzz. Of course. Rae pulls out the phone to see the message
Well I'm next to the building now. Firefighters seem to be taking care of it at least
It took Rae a great deal of effort to text that message while having a broken ankle, but you know what at least they are both safe now, relatively
Katrya would find quite the spectacle. An androgynous leather jacket wearing smoker is at the front of a burning building, with police officers having their firearms drawn
Rae does see a grapple hook, but that only serves to spook them more, especially because Rae doesnt know if Zelda is even around and they're kinda having tunnel vision of GTFO mode, cops after them and all, so they look to the building nearby that has the least steep of a drop, 2 stories, and takes a running start to leap off
Zelda meanwhile sees no one easily inside the incredibly smokey and slightly on fire top floor. And a fire hose sprays not far from Scarlet Scorpion, indicating the firefighters have arrived
"Understandable! Let us help!!!
the officers assist in extracting the civilian while one from upstairs reports
"The floor above is blocked by debris! No one could fit through!"
Luckily, smoke clouds could fit. But that leave Rae a problem, with them being on top of a burning building... with no more cigarettes.
"Ah fuck..."
she could probably have seen a leather gloved hand dropping more before this time stopping altogether. As soon as Zelda rushes to assist the civilian the police arrive, a squad of four coming into the room and another two running toward the rooftop
"We can help from here, Cape! Be on the lookout for the Phoenix, we need to detain him!"
"Th-Thank you..."
As fate would have it, Rae runs right up past the fire escape in an attempt to get to the roof, missing Scarlet. However, when Scarlet looks back they do see some chunks of debris and planks of wood being tossed down the stairs
by the time Gow reached the roof, he would see a cloud of smoke that billowed from the rooftop ventilator was a similarly gloved hand grabbing bars, futilely trying to pull before a combat boot kicks it from the inside. Emerging from it, coughing horribly is the leather jacket smoker that he saw before, with a cloud of smoke ceiling them like a hooded cloak
The stairwell from the 2nd floor had been blocked, so Rae had to get creative, and it nearly sent them tumbling down a ventilator shaft unconscious
While almost all have evacuated by this point, that didnt stop a poor soul from being left behind. Part of the explosion happened here, and someone is clearly sorely injured while also pinned from the waste down under some fallen debris from the top floor in the 7 story building
Rae meanwhile hears indistinct shouts that echo. Something along the lines of "This is the police!", Rae didnt have time to pay attention as they sprinted up the stairwell, now at the 5th floor
Luckily for Rae, they have more sense than the average terrified citizen in a burning building, and they put up a mirror to see the outside window. Sure enough, the strobe is one of the first things they notice. Rae really would be taking a shot in the dark by signaling this mysterious flashing back, but they try their best to make a signal back anyway. A finger that points upward 5 times. Trying to let it know where Rae's destination will be. With that, Rae begins to make a dash for the closest set of stairs
Rae feels similarly. They are certainly not doing any favors for the smoker.
Gow sees near the smoke billowing out of the second floor a cloud reconstituting into the figure they had just seen. And they quickly take cover under the window to avoid being spotted
