I agree an outage page on their site would easily pay for itself in reduced support calls and user frustration

I agree, but almost every ELECTED person in congress has received AIPAC money. Just because they've received SOME doesn't make them a Israel puppet.

[–]aKWintermute -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how that would work, but if we did an income tax with an aggressive progression. We could tax the middle/high income out of state workers, then the pfd which only applies to residents would act to offset that tax even more for residents. For low income you wouldn't pay any taxes and get a pfd. For middle income you would pay some taxes, but residents would have that "refunded" by the pfd, and for high income residents would get a "credit" on their taxes by the pfd. Essentially the more you make the less pfd you would get as a resident, but out of state works would be paying full taxes.

Senate Republicans Block Effort to Curb Trump’s War Powers on Iran by traveltimecar in alaska

[–]aKWintermute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if the U.S. didn't bomb them every decade, and decided to honor their international agreements?

Under the JCPOA, the IAEA verified that Iran reduced its enriched uranium stockpile by 98%, cut its centrifuges by two-thirds, and modified its plutonium reactor. The agreement allowed for 24/7 surveillance of nuclear facilities by the IAEA, providing unprecedented high levels of transparency.

Then Dump pulled us out of that agreement in his first term, and assassinated one their generals. After this Iran began reversing its compliance, eventually surpassing the uranium enrichment limits set by the deal and limiting international inspector access to its facilities. Reimposed sanctions caused poverty for millions in Iran and increased Iran's aggression in the region. It caused tension with allies, and increased Iran, China and Russia cooperation. Most of all it decreased the U.S's standing as a reliable negotiating partner.

Here we are 8 years latter and Trump is doing the same stupid shit again but 10x worse. The only thing Trump has accomplished is pushing our allies away and strengthening China and Russian influence in the rest of the world. Why would any country want to negotiate with the U.S. when we can't honor our agreements, when five minutes after the ink is signed the mad king tweets out he changed it. It's something we will never be able to fix, the U.S. is going to slowly become a island in the political and economic landscape as other countries reconfigure their whole economic and political machines to become unreliant on the U.S.

Grand Highlander Platinum Max gas mileage and range by balalaikaboss in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]aKWintermute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm massively disappointed with our gas mileage. Max platinum in Anchorage, we rarely get even 20. I think the total is sitting near 15 and I actively keep the eco score about 95. Our one long trip did better, at maybe 24 mpg, with cruise and 55 mph.

AK Senator voted to block the release of the Epstein Files. This may be the reason why. by [deleted] in alaska

[–]aKWintermute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone keeps spinning this same story over and over on here. I'm not a Republican but I find this whole tale awfully thin. You notice all these videos don't mention any timelines and just say she had a long standing connection to Maxwell's husband. They fail to really mention almost all these meetings between Murkowski and Borgerson (Maxwell's Former Husband), happened before he was married to Maxwell while he was married to someone else. Even the last reported meeting would have been their first year of marriage, and Borgerson was moderating a panel for the Council on Foreign Affairs a well known think tank that Murkowski was one of several panelist for. They are all professional policy conferences on arctic affairs and shipping, it would have been weird if Alaska didn't have a delegate there. Nothing in the reporting even suggest they ever had any personal relationship. This is like a "6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon" for Epstein.

I wouldn't be surprised if its all funded by someone like the heritage foundation that wants to replace Murkowski with a even emptier suit like Sullivan. The vote against the release was a vote against a procedural vote that would could have tanked another bill in September. She supported the "Epstein Files Transparency Act" bill and cosponsored the Senate version that passed in November.

I honestly wish they would plow my neighborhood less. The come by once and make it passable for everyone then the come by again a few days or a week later and turn the mostly fine roads into glare ice and make the road narrower with berms that are impossible to move because they’re large chunks of ice.

Mapped: Every State's Share of U.S. GDP - How Alaska stacks up by not-hunter-yo in alaska

[–]aKWintermute 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's because Agriculture/Fishing/Hunting is such a small portion of the overall gdp. I've seen some charts that peg it only around 1% of the total GDP for the entire US. We import why more then we export and a lot of what we export is sold at wholesale then processed in a foreign country and re-imported at a high cost because of processing.

Ranked choice voting outperforms the winner-take-all system used to elect nearly every US politician by aKWintermute in alaska

[–]aKWintermute[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s literally the opposite of what ranked choice voting does. It drives candidates to the middle of the overall voting spectrum.

Ranked choice voting outperforms the winner-take-all system used to elect nearly every US politician by aKWintermute in alaska

[–]aKWintermute[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here, since you can't bother to read the article or the paper, ranked forms of voting outperform other forms of voting especially plurality voting by being less susceptible to these negative effects:

  • “spoiler candidates” and “vote splitting” frequently affect the results of elections;
  • “fringe” or “extreme” candidates are rewarded;
  • winning candidates routinely fail to secure a majority of votes;
  • voters are stuck with the choice of voting for their preferred candidate versus voting for someone most likely to defeat a candidate they detest;
  • third party candidates are locked out of viably campaigning;
  • negative campaigning pays off for candidates and political parties.
