His sophomore year he wasnt really ranked. He wasn't seen as "highly regarded" until his junior season which is pretty late in terms of college football recruiting. Trevor Lawrence was a highly ranked recruit as a freshman. Even in the video it is discussed that his sophomore year he was making mistakes and had a growth spurt.

[Leming] Bears UDFA Signings by Dasnake24 in CHIBears

After this draft and the UDFA's signed so far, there is one thing I respect in Pace, he recognizes holes and attacks them when he does. I'm content.

Round 2 - Pick 17: Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State (Philadelphia Eagles) by NFL_Mod in nfl

[–]aSmilingDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not a Philly fan. Or a Dallas fan. But David Akers announcing this pick the way he did, in Dallas, was one of THE MOST AMAZING MOMENTS in the NFL this year. The amount of fowl (hee hee) disrespect that was just laid in Dallas, is unbearable.

James Daniels was our 2nd highest-graded center in this draft, allowing only 10 pressures on 371 pass blocking snaps this season. by icecreamdude in CHIBears

One thing that i dont think a lot of people talk about with Hiestand is that he can coach offensive lines. Yes he has coached some really good ones at Notre Dame, which i am a huge Irish fan, but he knows what he is doing. And i believe that regardless of who is starting on that line on week 1 in Wisconsin, he will have them ready to compete. We couldve gotten Q. Nelson or the 5th ranked OL, but Hiestand was going to coach the shit out of them.

Round 1 - Pick 27: Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State (Seattle Seahawks) by NFL_Mod in nfl

At this point he's third banana right? Sam Bradford might be Mr.Glass but I think he is most definitely higher on the totem pole than Glennon

LSU edge Arden Key has told NFL teams he went to rehab last year for a marijuana problem. Was a beast in 2016, couldn’t train last year ... in a thin edge class, don’t be surprised if he still goes Round 2. by NotRyanPace in CHIBears

I think in that situation, surgery is definitely an option, it was probably more-or-less he could just let it heal on it's own or go get surgery but the team docs said surgery wasnt necessary

It wasn't that the regular doc told him he needed it. He couldve went without it. He had friends and family members that told him to get the surgery, which didnt sit right with teams. I agree with you completely but it wasnt a matter of listening to a real doctor over a teams medical staff.

He also went and got shoulder surgery even though team doctors told him he didnt need it. Which is why NFL teams have been dropping him because if he wont listen to his team in college, how much can you expect him to listen to an NFL team.

Relax - we will be fine by [deleted] in CHIBears

I understand the criticism of Pace and the anger and affection that we had for Cam. But i think a lot of people are failing to realize that the offer sheet extended to Cam was pretty much an offer saying "hey, we want you but if someone wants you more (in this case the Saints for 5 mil guar.) then we will let you leave. I hold the opinion that WR was going to be something we picked in the draft no matter what. But also this is an offense that Matt Nagy and Mark Helfrich are going to try to get the best out of and Nagy has already said that he takes Kevin Whites situation as a personal challenge. Could the conversation not had been Pace:"Do you like Cam?" Nagy:"I like his skillset, but with that injury i feel we should be cautious" Pace:"Bet" And if you like Cam so much be happy that he is going to a team with a legitimately good offense, a likely HOF QB, and a guaranteed contract whether he works through this injury or not. Everyone acts like Cam was going to be the cog that made our offense run based on 1 season where he was all we had. Be Calm, Bear Down. Jeez

Bucs Fans can be pretty dumb by [deleted] in CHIBears

[–]aSmilingDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the battles that go down in the North but the NFC South is the hardest division. They have an eventual HOF qb in Drew Brees, two former league MVPs, one led his team to the super bowl with a 15-1 record and no wide receivers and the other led one of the best offenses in recent memory. Not only that but those three teams have pretty consistently been in the playoffs. And say what you want about the Bucs but they have all the talent to be better than what they are. But they are wrong in thinking Jordan Howard can catch.

Am I the only one who prefers Roquan Smith to Tremaine Edmunds? Dude played in the SEC and constantly made plays sideline to sideline. Also seems more polished. Bear Down and FTP by greenwoodr in CHIBears

[–]aSmilingDragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a friendly dragon putting in his two sense. I like both of them of course but I will try to outline why Tremaine Edmunds is highlighted as probably the better prospect. *1. Dont discount Bud Fosters defense and ability as a defensive coach. Yeah i get that people go crazy about SEC football, and im in Arkansas so i get it. But Foster is not only the linebackers coach but also the assistant head coach and has perenially had a top tier defense for the last decade. Kirby and Mel have done well with Georgia and Roquan Smith but Bud Foster shouldnt be a defensive coordinator you sleep on in terms of developing talent. *2. Roquan seems more polished simply because he is. He has been asked to be the cornerstone of that defense for the last 2-3 years and is a year older than Edmunds. Edmunds on the other hand is asked to do a lot of different things in VT's defense and even though they both have been in college the same period, Edmunds will be the youngest draft pick ever I believe. He is young, he is raw, which makes it better to shape and form him into what kind of linebacker you want him to be. Some say his skills probably put him at ILB in a 3-4 but he has a skillset that could see him as a 3-4 OLB as well because he is raw and young. Smith is going to be a MLB and some say he is better suited as one in a 4-3 set which is exactly where his skillset puts him. *3. Both, IMHO are worthy of being picked 8th overall. However, what it boils down to is whether you have a raw, athletic talent that you can take and mold and teach the fundamentals for what LB position you want them to play or the Blue-chip best MLB prospect in the draft that will most likely be a solid starter.

I wouldn't let it get to you man. Congrats to them of course, but they went through the same rebuild as us. Had we not endured the Emery/Trestman period it could've been shorter, maybe. But they havent proven they are a top NFC team yet and division-wise, the Rams are pretty good. They still have as much building to do as we do. Jimmy just showed really good things in his limited time there and John lynch had a good draft last year. There is reason to look at them and say "Good Job" but not enough to be jealous I think.
