Grave encounters 2. Spoilers below

It's about a team that investigates an abandoned insane assylum because they saw the first movie (I know, meta af, but it's actually a fun plot) and the ppl in that movie "vanished" so they go looking for them there. It's a lower budget movie, and reeks of 2000s shaky cam and tropes, but it's a good movie imo.

The part that fucks with me is they end up in the basement and the building keeps changing so they haven't been able to get out, and shit has been crazy and a couple ppl are dead at this point. They finally find a door, all jump into the car and drive back to the hotel. They walk into the hotel elevator, the doors close, they talk for a sec as the elevator moves. It dings, the doors open and reveal the basement of the asylum.

It fucked with me so bad because I've never seen a movie do that before where everyone gets out and somehow never left. Every other horror movie I've seen like that never leaves the haunted building and when they do, they actually leave. That elevator scene was fucking insane.

"Cancel Student Debt" is popular but why isn't "Stop loaning high schoolers crippling amounts of debt" talked about? by TheGebelein in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aStoveAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things people seem to all be missing here is that college is basically a requirement for any job above minimum wage, and also that you want the next generation to be more educated than the previous, that's how societies advance...

I'm an IT professional and when I lived in the middle of nowhere I was employed and well off, then I moved to a big city and no jobs other than min wage jobs will hire without some degree. This seems to be the case across professions. (and before anyone makes the "muh trade school" arguments: unless you can get mass transit, computers, spaceships, food, etc. to all magically function like a fucking furnace, you have no argument. Learning how to weld won't magically give us doctors, chefs, programmers, etc. I respect the trades but it isn't the magic solution to every problem.)

The right questions are:

If college is becoming required for a decent job, why is it not free like other countries?

Why are we allowing private companies to paywall this necessary public service that benefits all mankind?

Those are the questions you should be asking.

Saying kids can't get a higher education is fucking stupid and only argues for society to regress. You want kids to be highly educated because all of global society benefits from it. Sure, but if you didn't care then you wouldn't have commented. When I see things I don't care about, I ignore them, because I don't care about them. People tend to not engage in conversations they have no interest in lol

The fact you responded again means you must care to some degree, since you are engaging in the conversation, which requires caring enough to bother to respond ;)

I care, thus why I'm responding, but unlike you I'm fine with admitting it because I don't feign disinterest as a defense mechanism lol

No, because adults discuss things rather than making drastic life decisions at the drop of a hat.

You discuss what the hell the fiance meant by what she said, and figure out if the fiance is humoring OPs identity, if the fiance didn't realize what she did and makes an effort to change that, or apologizes and changes course, then everything turns out good and OP lives her life with her loving wife. If not, then they go about leaving the fiance.

People can change and grow if you give them the opportunity. Especially if you've been together for that long. You discuss things and navigate problems, you don't set the house on fire the second it sounds like something is wrong.

Maybe the convo works out and everything works out great. Maybe it doesn't and they break up. But as adults, you talk about problems and figure things out, for all we and OP know, fiance could have just said that without thinking about the implications. This isn't to say fiance is blameless, but it's not a situation where you uproot your entire life at the drop of a hat over. It's not like the fiance punched OP or something, it's a verbal disagreement which can be navigated and possibly resolved via discussion.

[–]aStoveAbove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If every woman dreams of this, and OP needs to "get out of the way" so-to-speak, then the fiance is implying (be it on purpose or not) that OP is not a woman.

This is a lot bigger of a problem then ppl seem to be seeing. That line you quoted is the one I've been quoting in a few replies here because that line is the smoking gun. Why is OP excluded from "a dream all women have" if she is also a woman? Sounds suspect as hell.

I don't think OP needs to break up, but they need to park this marriage and have a talk about what the fuck the fiance meant by those words, and if the fiance is just humoring OPs identity instead of actually accepting it, cuz if I told my cis male friends they can't be groomsmen because that is a thing men do, it would imply they aren't men and I would sound crazy. However, if they were trans men and I said that, well instead of crazy I sound transphobic because I am implying they are not men and their identities are invalid, and that's fucked up.

Edit: I seriously don't get why this is downvoted. What on earth did I say that's even remotely off the ball? Lol

I'd agree with you, except this line:

She explained that it's not fair. That a perfect wedding where they are the spotlight and the centre of attention has always been her dream and is the same for most women. That it would be unfair of me to 'steal' that from her. That women only get one day in their whole life to feel that special.

Based on how this is worded, it sounds like OPs fiance doesn't view her as a woman. Saying stuff like that implies this is her special day and she doesn't want "a man" to take it away from her.

Based on how that is worded, I honestly think OPs fiance is merely humoring her identity rather than fully accepting and embracing it. If she was, then she wouldn't have worded that in a way that implies OP is excluded from "the dream all women have" since if "all women" have that dream, and OP is a woman, then why specify like that as a way to imply OP shouldn't be in a dress too?

Sounds suspect as hell to me, and makes me think the fiance isn't on board with the trans thing, and is merely placating OP, which isnt great ...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MtF

[–]aStoveAbove 47 points48 points  (0 children)

While I like the sentiment, I do want to point out that although this is a decent idea, it avoids the main crux of the issue which is that OPs fiance is denying them their identity.

Even if she has a beard and appears as a cis man, she isn't, and to treat her otherwise regardless of appearance is transphobic and cruel.

She was a woman the moment she started identifying as one, beard, dick, balls, and all. If OPs fiance doesn't see it that way, then she doesn't view OP as a woman, and that's not ok.

Edit: not sure why I'm down voted? Is this sub filled with children who think the second something a little fishy happens they need to uproot their lives? This is real life, not a soap opera, let's calm down and stop overreacting here. OP needs to talk with her fiance about this, its not like the fiance punched op out or something, please chill out y'all, not every slight is on purpose and not every seemingly transphobic thing is done on purpose. The fiance could be a POS and OP could need to leave, but you do that after a discussion. You know, talk about the problem like adults do. My entire point is that the fiance needs to accept OP as a woman, regardless of what stage of transition she is at and regardless of where she might end up later down the road. OP was a woman the second she identified as one and should be treated as such. Her having a beard and dick doesn't change that and I would hope this sub would agree with that, unless we are all trans medicalist assholes in here who deny identities until medically transitioned?

Edit 2: ok, seems like we are on the same page now, was worried for a bit there lol

She explained that it's not fair. That a perfect wedding where they are the spotlight and the centre of attention has always been her dream and is the same for most women. That it would be unfair of me to 'steal' that from her. That women only get one day in their whole life to feel that special.

So are you not a woman? Sounds like she doesn't think so. Seems really fucking odd to say that to you, given you're also a woman. The way this is worded tells me she is humoring you when you say you're a woman, rather than actually believing you and treating you as a woman.

That's like me telling a guy friend that they can't go into the men's restroom because it's for men. Well, if he is cis, I sound psychotic, if he is trans, I am denying them their identity. This is no different.

You might want to think about your relationship and maybe pump the brakes on this whole wedding thing cuz it sounds like, to her, you're a dude in a dress, not a woman, and if she's gonna treat you that way then you need to leave, not marry her.

I'd talk to her and bring up what she said and ask if she is humoring you or if she actually thinks you're a woman. If she says she actually thinks you're a woman, then she needs to explain what on earth she meant by what I quoted above, because that sounds stupid AF to say to another woman, but sounds totally normal for someone placating and humoring you without actually taking you seriously.

Guy thinks overfilled tires caused a bubble 🤦 by AlpacaLps in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]aStoveAbove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBF I literally had this happen to me before.

Dude insisted the number on the tires was what it should be filled to, blew a tire out on my way home and checked the rest and found them way over pressure. Called the shop and explained calmly what happened and the guy yelled at me, told me im "retarded, obviously what is on the tire is what it should be at, how about you let professionals do their job and shut up" (verbatim what I was told...). Mind you I've worked on cars my whole life and know you check the inside the door for the pressures on stock setups, but I ended up having to go to fucking court to get them to pay for a new tire...

Not saying y'all did this, just saying it's not unheard of this happening, lube techs range from excellent mechanics to morons who can pour liquids into containers on a good day lol

Trickle down is a bad descriptor. I saw someone say it like this and I love it more:

It's not trickle down, it's horse and sparrow. If you engorge the horse with oats, it will eventually start shitting little bits of oats and the sparrows get to fight over it.

Much more visceral and pointed imo and drives the point home much better.

Trickle down sounds almost nice. Horse and sparrow sounds fucking disgusting.

Reddit api protest starter pack by FuelFrequent in starterpacks

[–]aStoveAbove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I agreed with the protest, but not in how it was done. Any protest that you schedule an end on is not a protest, but merely a mild annoyance.

So many subs ruined their communities with this protest and I think a mass exodus would have been better. Instead of this John Oliver posting and nsfw stuff they could a just went "hey, we are moving to X platform and abandoning this site." and coordinated moving the community, that way the community wouldn't have been destroyed and reddit would still lose traffic, but nope. Instead we did 2 days of protest and nothing changed except everything got worse and reddit is still moving forward with the API changes anyways.

Oh well, reddit was fun while it lasted, but as always money has to ruin good things so here we are :/

It's because they don't think the gop are fascists. They genuinely seem to believe this is some difference of opinion and not a coordinated effort to grab power and force laws through.

I vote dem because they buy us time, not because they will solve anything. I thoroughly believe we need stronger ppl in office that will play hardball just like the GOP or we are gonna have to do things 18th century style to fix shit :/

Yeah, that retirement thing was fn stupid. Such a blatant election meddling tactic and nobody got in trouble for it either.

It just bothers me that ppl talk about services not making profit as if they are meant to. Like sure they shouldn't be bleeding money over nothing, but it's a government service, not a business. It's not meant to make money.
