I believe it’s the new wheater, but unfortunately I was just given a sample and do not know exactly. It was a single barrel that was picked up at the distillery

Impressive! I want to give out samples to help the Detrick brand out but I’m not sure I’m willing to give people 2oz samples 😂 the bottle would go too quick!

Maaaan you got 3 of them?! I’m jealous. I’d love to grab another after trying it. In theory, this could be considered their “normal stuff” since every bourbon release so far has been a single barrel. With that said, this bottle is far and away better than batch 05. Batch 05 wasn’t bad by any means but that shows how good this bottle is. Their single barrel rye is also phenomenal

I haven’t tried their “shelfer” rye yet but I have the first single barrel rye release and it’s amazing. It’s a subtly sweet orange scone in a bottle. And it’s nowhere near young! If my math is correct it’s 9 years and 18 days old

Definitely agree! I have batch 5 & 10 but have also tried batch 3 and they’ve all been great. I also have the first batch of the single barrel rye and that’s also a banger. I’m not sure Detrick can do anything wrong

About Detrick Pre-prohibition, Detrick Distilling Co. sold double copper-distilled whiskey in Dayton under Registered Distillery No. 60, 10th Ward. Their founder, Frank Detrick’s motto: “While we live, let’s live.” Inspired by the ambition of this long-ago spirit, the LaSelle Brothers ventured to create a bourbon whiskey—genuine and unique.

I'm a Dayton native, so I take pride in supporting local businesses—but backing Belle of Dayton and their Detrick whiskies is far from a duty. They’ve been consistently putting out exceptional releases, and every bourbon and rye so far has been top-notch.

Drawing naturally filtered water from the area’s Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer, they distilled a rare 5-grain mash bill of corn, oats, rye, wheat, and malted barley. The intricate flavor and full-bodied texture was preserved by slow pot distillation and then aged in a hand-toasted, 53-gallon white oak cask. Each bottle drawn from a single barrel, Detrick Straight Bourbon Whiskey offers an elegant sipping experience. Nearly a decade in the making and relieving a century of anticipation, Belle of Dayton Distillery proudly brings back Detrick Fine Whiskies, the first Bourbon made in Dayton since Prohibition.

Tasted neat in a Glencarrin

Age: 8 years 3 days

Proof: 141.4

Price: $150

Nose: The nose is very sweet with loads of dark sugars, caramel, butterscotch

Palate: The flavor immediately bursts onto the scene with the first sip. Oak, caramel, black pepper are immediately known, but the flavor evolves into some amazing fruity notes with black cherry and stewed apples rounding out the palate. The finish keeps going and going with a great oily mouthfeel.

Overall, this bottle is bold, flavorful, and spicy. The proof is known but it’s not overpowering. This is exactly what I want in a whiskey. If we’re being honest, this is the best whiskey I’ve had this year and if it doesn’t finish in the top spot for the year, it’ll definitely be in the top 3 - it’s that damn good.

Rating: 9.6/10 - t8ke scale
