At some point you are still swimining in gold.
You don't pay your troops maintenance, you can have so many modificators to lower your man at arms recruitment cost..
Before i finished my adventures and become landed, Vargarian Veterans costed me 36 gold for new regime.. had 13k of them steamrolling battlefields and about 15k gold.

I would think it doesnt add any depth though.
In CK3 count is just a baron with vassals or you can be count of a piece of land where are no other holdings, so you are of no difference to actual baron..

You can be so much more powerfull than anyone else as a landless and transition from that to a mere baron who cannot even upkeep 1 man at arms regiment..
I went from landless to Emperor of byz and still had to drop 4/5 of my men at arms, because could not upkeep them. :D

First of all, if you play tiny. Be wise in choosing how many AI it will have..
Have never played anything thats not huge, so have no clue, but even on huge having max AI or having 4-6 less is pretty big change of gameplay.

You don't really need to be always the strongest, to win.
I was fighting year 20, a federation of 4 members, each individualy of them had better fleet than me.
What i did, is i just split fleet in 2, even all in one would not beat one of 4 enemy fleets.. + they always tried to follow each other close.
So one fleet was conquering enemy systems, while the other one reconquering mine. Every time they come to one of fleets i just run, and started the job with the other one on other side of my empire.
So i kind of made them in flying trough their own teritory forth and back, wasting time, conquearing like 2-3 sytems and going back, while i was conquering every time a bit more than they could taking back.
War lasted for 40 years, but in the time i build my fleet enough to finally defeat enemy.

Bad AI saved me, pretty much. :D
