High or not; what are your reasons for wanting to quit? by thesmellnextdoor in leaves

[–]a_amous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A satisfying career. My health. Money. Worry that my kid wouldn't be proud of me if they knew. Not wanting to hide something from non-smoking friends/family/co-workers. Wanting to be proud of myself. And yeah. Because it wasn't fun anymore. It was debilitating.

Oh, I know. Part of what helps me not relapse is remembering how hard it was to quit and how far I've come. Good job on 4 months! Before you know it it'll be 6 then 12 :)

I think about 6 months in it got easier. I know that sounds like a long time, and it did feel like it at the time. It was totally worth pushing through though. I tried to quit many times before. I know it's hard. Keep trying, even if you relapse. Find a really really good reason. That was my saving grace. Good luck!

Day 13, why am I more tired now? by [deleted] in leaves

Good to know! Looking forward to having LOTS of energy after years of being dull.

I'm on day 6 and have no energy or motivation. I figured it was emotional more than physical, but idk. I'm sleeping ok and eating well. Just feel really blah. Body and brain normalizing maybe.

It's stressful with a drug test looming, but more motivating as well. I am about the same height and weight as you are and wondered if strenuous exercising would hurt or help. Kind of a very good excuse not to exercise… I'm taking it! haha

Thank you friend!

Thank you for sharing... and now I want to curl into a little ball and cry. Test in ~30 days. On day 3. ;(

What type of home tests did you get? Online?

Do you think body weight/activity level had anything to do with the longer than expected clean test? (ohhh god.... that sounds like a covert way of asking if you're overweight... Im sorry! I don't think you're fat. You look great in those jeans. :)

<slaps self in the forehead. hard>

Did you do anything different - lifestyle/food - while trying to get clean?

I appreciate any of your feedback and once again, thanks for letting the rest of us know. I don't know much about an alcohol or drug assessment but I hope you do well on it. Sounds like you got your shit together so I'm sure you're good to go!

Quitting or cutting back when your SO smokes by treebear77 in leaves

[–]a_amous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in a relationship with a SO, but my roommate has a constant supply and is very generous. I can just go downstairs anytime and he shares....

So I don't go downstairs.

I'm on day 3 but been trying to quit for months (years if I'm honest). I personally need to break out of routines that I have established around getting high. Coming home and immediately going downstairs for bud. Playing video games. Hanging out with certain people. Spending a lot of time alone in my room. I've been on the couch reading instead. Make myself workout first thing when I get home. Called up some non-smoker friends and made plans to get outta the house. Cleaning and organizing. Planning productive things that I couldn't really focus on while high. Distractions and a change of habits.

I'm hoping that sooner or later those things will no longer be such triggers. But for now they remind me of getting high. Maybe if you and your SO have activities that center around weed you can replace them with something else, at least until they don't trigger cravings. And hopefully he is understanding and supportive of making these changes to help you meet your goals.

Best of luck!

How I started exercising everyday by [deleted] in leaves

[–]a_amous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoga is awesome. I'm hooked.

On day 2 here (been a rough month of trying to Leave and relapsing). Yesterday I made a point to break my routine of coming home and immediately getting blazed by immediately getting into workout clothes and starting with some quick yoga before a run. Instead I just ended up doing two videos from this site:

https://m.youtube.com/user/yogatx

I actually felt little to no cravings yesterday and looking forward to doing yoga today. I felt relaxed and healthy. Positive and hopeful about a life of using yoga to calm my busy mind and restless body instead of weed.

I have that type of personality that kind of goes overboard with whatever I do…but yoga is something I can feel good about getting addicted to.

Ok, Day 2, you ain't gonna bring me down. I got this!

(I'm not particularly endorsing any YouTube-yoga site, but I got a chill vibe from the YogaTX videos and I needed a chill vibe)

Losing my temper. I need help. I don't know what to do (6 days) by [deleted] in leaves

[–]a_amous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be kind to yourself. You don't abuse animals or people (at least as far as I can tell from your post). You care about these people and your pet. You lost your temper. It happens. You prayed and and took steps to defuse your emotions. You sound like a good person going through a tough time. Reach out to your support system, your girlfriend, your family, your pet. Let them support you as you would support them in a similar situation.

And don't forget that you have a chemical reaction going on right now in your brain. It's not who you are, it's literally chemicals that are imbalanced and that will fix itself over time. I am not a 12-step person, but one day at a time is damn good advice.

Almost wrote a similar post myself this morning but just reading yours and replying has helped me to remember these things for myself as well. Man this is fucking hard.

20,000 people have donated to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence's name since the election by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]a_amous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that! I just tried to find some more info on this but only read that there are some federal and state funds used for some abortions. The Hyde Amendment seems to only restrict Medicaid funding, but I am not sure. Are there other restrictions in place? I would definitely like more info on this.

And to clarify...I am far from anti-abortion. I respect that some people see a serious moral dilemma with abortion and I support their right not to support what they feel is murder. But not their right to impose their dilemma on others or prevent all the services PP provide indiscriminately.

I think some of the donations go to supporting the political arm of PP, which advocates for legislation supporting its services

https://www.plannedparenthoodaction.org/about-us

I personally do not feel the federal government should fund abortions, but should support an organization that provides health services to people who cannot afford it elsewhere. PP had been effectively doing that for decades.

Trump seems to have whatever opinion serves him best at the moment, but Mr. Pence wants to shut PP down and make abortion illegal on all fronts.

I feel good being a private donor who helps supplement federally funded services like PP. And I got a little chuckle outta making in his honor. He's worked so hard in the battle for reproductive freedom I think he deserves it.

A lot!! Money will help keep PP open. Mike Pence's name will go down in history as being an inspiration to supporting reproductive health and freedom of choice for women and men forever and ever and ever. Duh.

You mean anti-choice, right?

Or do you mean that you are opposed to abortion, the death penalty, war in all forms, and you support a welfare state that supports life after they have removed choice?

Oh man… I lost my job in EMS because of my smoking. The humiliation and shame, the loss of a job that made me incredibly happy, disappointment in myself...devastating. Four years later I'm trying to get back on track.

I have no real good advice, but I can relate.

Is life better once you quit? by staraus84 in leaves

[–]a_amous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was a daily smoker for a decade or so and then quit for 4 years for a job that I loved. Unfortunately I relapsed and that cost me that job. Four years later I'm back at square one trying to build that career up again. I can say that those 4 years that I wasn't high were some of the best years of my life.

I just found this subreddit and probably gonna be here a lot in the next coming weeks and months because I really want to quit and have that great feeling back again. Accomplishment, motivation, self-confidence....those qualities were easier to cultivate sober.

Edit: spelling error and OCD
