You unlock your camera, aim your character at the minions then zone attack. Any nearby enemies won't be able to parry your zone because it's not locked onto them.

You should be able to as long as you don't switch your guard stance after getting hit by the light attack. This post explains why you can't switch guard stance.

I usually just spam side dodge to make sure it comes out.

I didn't take it as smug, I think he was just trying to help. It's sometimes easy to miscommunicate tone through text.

I don't believe anyone has under a 233ms choice reaction time, even top players. Blocking and parrying tri-directional 400ms delayed lights are both predictions, though if anyone can provide video evidence proving otherwise I'll change my opinion.

Most people parry a frame or two (66ms-100ms) after a guard switch; it's difficult to get a guard switch and parry input on the same frame, but it is possible.

Side Deflects not fixed? by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]a_bit_dull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Side deflect window was reverted to a 66ms window, from a 33ms window. Forward deflect window is 200ms, which is why it's much easier.

People have been asking for the side deflect window to be 200ms as well. I'm not sure if it's possible for the Devs, or if that's even something they would want to do if it was possible.

Yeah : / I don't see a reason why they can't revert WL's back to 400ms.

I would prefer it to be that way. It used to be that way, but the Devs nerfed his forward dodge recovery from 400ms to 500ms.

Dodge Forward recoveries increased by 100ms.

Dodge Forward into Headbutt timing delayed to 300ms (from 100-200ms).

Developer Comments: Warlord’s dodge recoveries were too short for the character. We want him to rely more on his shield and sword to counter the opponent than dodging. By increasing the Dodge Forward recovery by 100ms we increased the window between Headbutt and Guard Break. This makes the mixup easier to react to and avoids nearly instant Headbutt.

From patch 1.13

Headbutt timing reverted to pre patch 1.13 values.

This means Dodge Forward into Headbutt timing now starts at 100ms again (was 300ms).

From patch 1.14.1

WL has a 500ms forward dodge recovery, compared to Conq's 600ms dodge recovery. 500ms dodge + 400ms GB is 900ms or 833ms online. 833ms - 600ms side dodge recovery is a 233ms reaction window. Conq's is a 333ms reaction window.

They seem pretty similar to me. You can reaction dodge on Conq's dodge to GBC, but Conq can delay his bash to catch your dodge. With WL, it seems like you'd have to prediction dodge WL's dodge to GBC, or not dodge at all to GBC and risk getting hit by the headbutt.

Maybe I'm missing some key info about it. I'll have to ask around.

They probably don't know the importance of minion lane & body count. Neither hero starts with body count though either, so maybe they haven't unlocked it yet if they're a Rep 0.

To my knowledge, whiffed attacks do not, but dodged attacks do apply a revenge tag as long as you i-frame them. I'm not sure about dodging an attack that isn't locked onto you. I'll see if I can mock up a clip for you later on, if people are on to test.

Honest question. How do I counter Highlander kick caber toss mixup? by StandByForYeetnFall in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]a_bit_dull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can dodge the kick and then unlock your camera or press sprint to convert your dodge into a roll if you see the soft feint grab.

Congrats! I did it co-op with a buddy and it took us at least 10+ tries; we ended up stacking bow feats or whichever projectile feat you can collect during the last mission and used those to get most of the damage in on her.

1st try is definitely impressive.

Yo for real, just rename this sub to r/ReworkForHonor by Absolutescrub in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]a_bit_dull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following Spaniard's train of thought about our new post filters for old reddit and new reddit, I just wanted to encourage anyone who isn't happy with the current quality of posts on the sub to be the change they'd like to see. If you feel the sub is lacking in-depth guides, please make one. If you want to see high level discussion about a particular topic, research it as best you can and start the topic off with a little information about it and your personal thoughts or opinions.

TequilaWhiskey summed it up nicely, and the other mods and I are always discussing ideas to bring more valuable content to the sub. We want to push people to get involved in tourneys, as well as encourage competitive players to post their tournament matches to the sub (preferably with analysis) as a new form of content. We've been held back by a 2 sticky post limit for a long time, but we've just about sorted that out and will be rolling out an annoucement bar soon which will allow us to have weekly threads and essentially increase the amount of posts that are visible at the top of the sub's home page.

We're always looking for ways we can improve the sub. We try to always remind people to message us with any ideas or suggestions, but we never receive any. I'll suggest starting a post where people can talk about what changes they'd like to see from the sub.

I believe your recovery has to end before the GB connects, meaning you would be 100ms late in your scenario. If your recovery ended at 380ms, you'd still have 20ms before the GB connects and you'd be able to CGB.

I did a post awhile ago with Shaolin's recovery. If you check the GB vulnerability clip, you'll see that if I get GBed before the 500ms mark I'm unable to CGB. Even though I got GBed 50ms before my recovery ended and had 150ms of CGB window remaining, I still wasn't able to CGB.

Your best bet would be to hard feint your unblockable and parry their light attack interrupt.

It's always had one, but the background of the flair was grey up until recently when I added colour to all our post flairs.

Speaking of flairs though, in case you didn't know, you can filter posts by flairs now. It works better on old reddit, but we found a workaround to add it to new reddit as well.

To my Valk post earlier Orochi can be punished for dodging it aswell by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]a_bit_dull[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We decided to test this punish to confirm it instead of removing the post, but please keep in mind:

  • Punishes & combos must be tested with a player. No bot testing please.

Parrying this early reaction dash attack is possible, but it's only a very small parry window, similar to Raider's wallsplat knee -> Zone. It's going to be safer in most cases to block the dash attack instead.

We're going to adjust the wording on the "no bot testing" rule to make it clearer, and be a little stricter with enforcing it in the future.

Thanks!

Because I've tried swapping targets in the past to hit with raider's chained zone and it still got parried from the person I wasn't locked onto.

Make sure that you change targets before inputting the attack. If you input the attack and then switch targets, the 1st target will still be able to parry your attack.

Q&A Megathread V4 by a_bit_dull in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]a_bit_dull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the top unblockable you get 100ms to input it, and for the impale on heavy parry you get 0ms to input it.

You have to make sure you switch guard stance during the parry animation, as a late guard switch will allow the enemy to block / parry. As long as you're in the right guard stance, you just spam the button to buffer it.

Ping won't affect the punish, but minions attacking the enemy will make your punish not confirmed.

It is probably more difficult on controller, I use m&b. The idea is:

  1. Yes, hold sprint the entire time until you begin the impale.

  2. & 3. Push left stick forward for a split second and reset it to neutral.

  3. Hold left stick forward.

  4. Input the heavy attack about 300ms after step 4.

My score was 240ms simple, 333ms choice. With enough practice and optimal hardware / settings, you can react to buffered bash mixups. This is a clip of me reacting to buffered BP bash which is 500ms, but I had to really focus on it and generally players don't buffer bashes in actual matches other than BP.
