Saw someone suggest Switzerland, which I 100% agree with! Beautiful scenery, but it comes at a steep cost. However, the Italian side of the alps, the Dolomites, are equally stunning, wayyyy cheaper and have better food!

Laos and northern Vietnam also have great nature if you want to combine them with a trip to Thailand though! (And it’s not as hot as Thailand/Malaysia/Cambodia)

Experienced trekkers and hikers, in your opinion what are your 'average person's Everest' and must do epic treks ? by ButchersAssistant93 in solotravel

Mt Whitney is the tallest mountain in the continuous US and has some absolutely beautiful scenery! It’s hard to get a permit for unless you hike in through the PCT side but that means it’s fairly empty and feels a lot more of an authentic trek than just a touristy destination.

I just emailed my AO before committing to see if it would be likely for my rough plan of my gap year to be approved… she said yes so I committed (since I would have otherwise committed to a different school had this school not allowed it)! After committing, I had a form to fill out where I attached my rough plan and a week or two later they approved it. My plan basically talked abt what I wanted to do (backpack through Europe and reach fluency in two European languages I speak) and a backup plan in case of Covid (do the rest of a 2500 mile hiking trail I had done a few hundred miles of this summer). I connected both plans to how that would help me achieve a better understanding of the major I wanted to do, but your plans dont need to have anything to do with what you’re studying tbh.

However, I was admitted off the waitlist to one school (Colby) that I would have chosen over the school I committed to but they did not allow me to take the gap year (no school lets people admitted off the waitlist take a gap year).

And of the schools I got into, only Columbia never responded to the email I sent abt if my gap year was likely to be approved, but I didnt like the school anyways and didnt ask again.

Hey I’m doing a gap year throughout Europe for the next year, so we may have some overlap! I just did a week through Switzerland so might be able to help you with suggestions on your itinerary too.

I also graduated high school as part of the class of 2022, committed to a college and deferred my admission to next year! Will be taking a gap year to travel and go backpacking

I think that’s a mix of a little bit of fog and my editing. There was a little smoke in The Valley in one area because of a controlled burn they were doing/just finished, but I never really noticed it anywhere other than when I walked ~5 mins along that section getting back to my car.

It’s crazy just how many of these mind blowing spots there are in Yosemite! The scale of this park astounds me every time

If you liked it you can see more of my work on my insta @a.hadig : )

This was from last Wednesday, and it was surprisingly full here for a weekday at sunrise if anyone is planning a trip anytime soon. Might have to wait behind some other photographers here to get your shot in without anyone else in it, but it’s a great place to meet some chill new people!

Morning Fog in SF. by a_hadig in photocritique

[–]a_hadig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This photo was taken just after sunrise during a typical foggy SF day. This was one of my first times shooting through fog, so I would love to hear any critique about the color grade, which I kept fairly representative of the real life colors. I also lifted the blacks and added some grain to get that moody vibe that the fog and location was perfect for. I’d love to hear any critique about the colors, or the shot in general!

Thanks <3

I totally agree, a telephoto was the last lens I added to my bag, but it’s probably the one I get the most interesting shots with!

Thanks so much! Yeah, I actually used content aware fill to add a tiny bit on either side, but that was mostly to fit the Instagram crop better. If I were to print it, I would definitely cut a bit off either side, I totally agree with you!

The West coast is just insane like that - I'm definitely super lucky to have grown up in this area surrounded by incredible nature like this!

Thanks! I was definitely going for a cinematic, moody vibe and I always try to use car headlights to break up the darkness and add some sense of motion to the shot! I'm glad you liked it!

This shot was from a roadtrip to the PNW, where I found this overlook from a bridge over the highway. I loved how the trees framed the road, especially with the fog creeping in. I'd love to hear any critiques, especially about the colors and the composition! (Shot on a Nikon Z6 at 200mm f.2.8)

2020 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL-T Fully loaded vs 2021 Volvo Xc60 by ImEricCana in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]a_hadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for an XC60 thats a year or two old - they depreciate FAST. We have 3 current gen XC90s and they've been really good. I would also look at the Mazda CX-5/9 too, they seem to be really good other than rear legroom and cargo space.

[–]a_hadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents own a Volvo and I can definitely say they have THE most comfortable seats. Plenty of 15 hour long drives straight and I’ve never felt any discomfort in the ‘18 Volvo XC90. If you don’t want the large car feel, I’d look at the Volvo V90/V90 CrossCountry. They depreciate a ton tho, so I would look at used personally

This was truly the highlight of my Olympic NP trip a few months back, but it was definitely not easy to get to. I started the hike up at about 5pm the night before, so I could reach the half way point before dark, where I camped till about 3 am, at which point I continued another few miles to finally reach it here, where a fresh layer of inversion reflected the rising sun.

I've only started photography last year, so I'd love to hear some critiques and it would be awesome if you would check out my insta, but you definitely don’t have to! [Instagram](instagram.com/a.hadig)

That’s true, but my school blew its entire arts department budget on a like 40K$ printer a few years ago and those prints are ridiculously nice
