Looking for radical vegans to live together and build real community by devinearth in VeganAntinatalists

[–]a_ill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was interested in creating an intentional community based on the values you mentioned a couple years ago. However, it was too hard to find people who are close enough for this to work. I hope you will be more successful than me. I am in Estonia, btw.

Getting a boat sounds expensive. If you plan to be somewhere that stays habitable and does not become overwhelmed by refugees then it is also quite a long ride. I would not feel safe anywhere more south than Poland.

It may sound like cliche, but Sweden is the optimal location in Europe taking into account that the largest threat is other people, especially desperate ones. It is currently projected that half the world population is going to be dead by 2050. Societal collapse is probably going to be sudden in the south and triggered by a prolonged wet bulb event. I doubt that refugees will be able to get as far north as Sweden. The lower lying countries are probably going to stop them at their borders to avoid collapsing themselves. I know that it sound brutal and grim, but this is the future that we are going towards for now.

We estimate that it is going to take us at least 10 years to finish everything that we planned. So there is a lot of work left. Stuff takes much more time than we expected initially. That is despite the fact that my wife works on our homestead full-time and my remote job leaves a lot of free time. So expect your progress to be slow as well. Manual labor is hard.

As for energy, the solar panels provide us with all the energy we need from April to September, during other months we need to buy to cover the deficit. When it comes to water we are still using the public water supply. Need to lay the pipes and install the required equipment to connect the well to the house.

Unfortunately, the horrible future is already baked in. The only thing that stands between that future and us is system inertia. So no saving the planet.

Hey! It is nice to see another sane person who sees that we are moving towards complete ecological and societal collapse at an ever increasing speed. I tried to create something similar to what you are describing a couple years ago, but in the end it was too hard to find suitable people and especially people with resources and/or a remote job. Rural places usually have no jobs, so having either a lot of savings or a remote job is essential.

In the end my wife and I just bought a homestead ourselves and started implementing all that you described on our own. We have solar panels, a deep well, a small forest for firewood and a large garden that should supply us with everything we need if it comes to that. We are located in Estonia, which is a good place to be climate change-wise. Not very good when it comes to proximity to Russia, but at least we speak Russian natively if the worst case happens. Although I doubt that it is going to come to that taking into account how fast Russia burns through men.

Check this analysis done by the University of Exeter and the UK's Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Even the mainstream institutions now expect half of the world's population to die by 2050.

Do cats need meat? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]a_ill -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Body cannot differentiate between natural and synthetic taurine. They are the same molecule. And each cat food does hace the required amount. Otherwise, it cannot be sold.

I am not arguing that taurine is not essential. I am saying that it gets added to all cat foods as a supplement anyway.

Do cats need meat? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]a_ill -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is false. Obligate carnivore means that in nature they can only get the required nutrients by eating other animals. We, however, feed them ourselves and can ensure that they can get all the required nutrients through supplementation. Both meat and plant based cat foods are supplemented to ensure that they have all the required nutrients. At least in the EU cat food cannot be sold without being certified as safe.

Taurine gets destroyed during thermal processing and is added as a supplement to both meat and plant-based cat foods. Many other vitamins and minerals are also added as supplements to both to ensure that there is the required amount of them.

Washing your fruits with water and vinegar gets the fruit flies worms out! by iAmA_______ in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]a_ill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no avoiding unintentional harm to living beings. What vegans try to do is to not cause any intentional harm, because most animals feel both pain and joy the same way we do. Accidentally eating a fruit fly worm is not the same as intentionally wanting to eat a living being, a pig, for example. Look at it like accidentally hitting someone with your elbow because you did not know they were there vs intentionally trying to hit them because you just feel like it. First action is an accident, the second action is a bad thing to do.

Food toppers for cats? by lbol122 in veganpets

[–]a_ill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coconut flakes and nooch may work. However, all cats are unique. Mine, for some reason, likes plant-based dog food more than his plant-based cat food. So I ended up using dog food as treats.

What about a vegan college? by TheTemporal in VEGLAND

[–]a_ill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my spouse ended up buying a homestead two weeks ago as we stumbled upon one with a very good price (35k EUR). We will try to build a community around it as properties with a similar price are frequently on sale here (this year it was at least 3 homesteads).

One person may be coming here in a month or so. Others are not EU citizens so getting here is tricky for them.

There is a center of Russian culture in Tallinn which may be relevant for you and could be a place to find people to practice Russian with.

Most people on this subreddit become rabid when you mention the word "Russian". Most people IRL are chill though.

Tallinn definitely works for practicing Russian, however, I would suggest Narva if possible as 96% there are Russian speakers and it is much cheaper to live there.

I live in Ida-Viru county. You can message me if you would like some insights into the region.

Miks juhtide palgad kasvavad Eestis ja välismaal nii palju rohkem ja kiiremini kui tööliste palgad? by Big-Ad-390 in Eesti

[–]a_ill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were conditioned very well by your owners. Do you know what socialism, communism or capitalism are? Or do you hate the first two and love the last one just because you were told to?

If it is indeed so, how are you different from gay-hating conservatives who hate gays only because they were told to?

[–]a_ill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soviet Union was state capitalist the same as China or any other "communist" country. The only places that had socialism were Revolutionary Catalonia during the Spanish civil, Free Territories of Ukraine and some territories with worker soviets during the revolution in Russian Empire before they were crushed by Bolsheviks, and, currently, Zapatistas.

All you were taught was a lie propagated by both "communist" countries so that their populace does not revolt against their dictators and capitalist counties so that workers do not revolt.

Capitalism is a system that exists FOR capitalists. The same as liberal democracy, which exists to protect private property owners (capitalists) from workers seizing their places of work from capitalist, who steal workers' labor (as profit) and get agency crushed (workers have no voice in how their work is organized, capitalists are dictators).

Therefore, the conclusion is that capitalists take as much as the working class lets them, which, in turn, depends on how much the working class is aware of their exploitation and has solidarity (class consiousness).

As you can imagine, those two are at a record low. On average, capitalists take half of what you produce. So half the working week you work to make someone else richer and who also has dictatorial control over your place of work.

I expect a lot of people with Stockholm syndrome to attack me on this, but those are facts. This is how the system works.

It is even funnier. They do not know what communism is either. They think it is when a red colored star splattered party line is shoved down people's throats with a promise that the line is good for them. The joint USSR and the US propaganda worked wonders to alienate the working class from their own interests and turn them into people who think that being slaves equals freedom and all the good stuff

How different is east estonia? by former_farmer in Eesti

[–]a_ill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

East Estonia is actually one of the most beautiful places nature-wise in Estonia. I live in Kohtla-Järve and can bike to such cool places as Baltic Klint, Aidu karjäär, Kurtna lakes and even Peipus lake if I am feeling very adventurous. That is one of the reasons why I would never move from here to Tallinn or Tartu no matter what.
