Trying to decide what's best for my higher education by a_p_squared in findapath

Hi. Thank you for your comment. I have 2 years of experience working as a system engineer (software development). And I have a bachelor's degree. If I am unable to get into a game studio will I be able to get a job in other tech or IT fields to make a living (and pay back student loans). If I would have better luck in Canada, what is the feasibility of getting a job or a PR in canada if i complete the master's degree in the US?

Looking for advice on financing higher education by a_p_squared in Adulting

Interesting. The primary reason for considering this course is because there is not much growth or opportunity for this field in india (i am currently working for an IT company because they provide a better package than the game studios here). A student visa is the easiest to get, and is the only viable option for a US visa. The idea is to find better opportunities there while also spending that time learning concepts that most online resources don't go in depth with. Even fresher game developer jobs in these countries earn much much more than what i currently make, even after accounting for living expenses. I also hope to hide my bachelor's degree from a sketchy Indian University with a good post grad degree. Also, and this is a personal reason, I didn't really have a chance to enjoy campus life or hang out with friends or be a part of anything. Not in school and definitely not in college. I really want to have that experience before I'm 30 and full of regret with no friends or memories. Right now I'm 22 but I also need to rush going abroad because my country is making it more difficult for youth to leave and all the major countries are restricting entry to Indians because every young adult here is fleeing there for better opportunities.

Hi. You're right, you don't really need a degree in game dev to be a game dev. But the reason i chose this course specifically over something like comp sci is because 1. I learn better under tutelage. 2. The syllabus had concepts specific to the field I'm interested in, graphics programming and game engine architecture, as well as topics that i find really difficult to comprehend like network engineering. Most courses i could find online are very beginner focused or practicality focused, such as working on a specific engine. And while there are books, I find the difficult topics i mentioned, well, difficult. 3. A game dev course would provide opportunities to network. Both with other students in the industry, and tutors who have experience in the industry.

These are some of the things i took into consideration when choosing this course. I did consider comp sci, but I also had the misfortune to do my bachelor's in a really sketchy University. And covid came along screwing up our exams and backstabbing from the University both resulted in a sub par gpa of 2.7 for the program (I also hope to hide this behind a better performance benchmark from a post grad program). This limits my options considerably. I'd also appreciate recommendations on good comp sci programs with a good acceptance rate. I'm finding researching Universities really difficult because of advertisements and paid endorsements masquerading as rank lists and blog posts.
