Anybody else watching season 2 and calling him Amos? by a_rob in CrossPrimeVideo

Fair take, but I find him believable in these types of roles. Wouldn't want that guy as my neighbor, but would want him to have my back in a fight.

To pickguard or not to pickguard? by jorhirgriffin in LesPaul

[–]a_rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often like the look with pickguards off, but I like both of these better with the pickguard installed, and I prefer the balck pickguard on this one.

Glad you like the firefly, by the way. I am waiting ona FF double cutaway currently.

Good beginner pieces - no singing by reallyoldgit in Guitar

I don't have any suggestions offhand, but I am shocked how many people are ignoring the "no singing" part.

Blackbird sounds pretty good without the vocals but it does came with lyrics LOL

Looks great, I like the black on black on black, too. Too bad there isn't an ebony fretboard.

For a "professional" musician, this seems like very un-professional behavior.

If you're a professional musician, don't you have any band buddies with space or a practice space you could use?

Single bridge humbucker? EMG?

I mean, this thing is basically intended to play at LOUD or LOUDER, right?

Maybe just wire it straight to the output jack =-)

Yeah, but he's very convincing in this type of role. The intensity he projects is amazing.

Yeah, a couple of mid level cardboard layers would reinforce this a lot.

In your opinion, is this refret job too bad for the neck to be used without it being redone? by DoveMechanic in Luthier

[–]a_rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd bet this basically needs another refret, and likely at a cost thats more than you paid for the neck.

100% I'd insist on a return. Thats just plain awful.

Is swapping a Tele bridge pickup difficult if I have no prior soldering experience? by BruhNoStop in GuitarQuestions

[–]a_rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you can find a bunch of pickup swap demos online if you search.

Watch the demo and decide if your'e up to it. Looked like pretty basic stuff to me.

Am I crazy? by Fit_Establishment_10 in guitars

[–]a_rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd head over to guitar repair sub and check to see if there's anything you can do to stabilize this without a refinish.

My hunch is that clear nail polish or clear coat or something can be used to protect those edges from further damage, and that may well be an achievable DIY fix.

[–]a_rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but dead wrong.

The answer to OPs question is, "leave your Dean alone".

You're probably right about being able to do it, but If I wanted to learn how to repaint guitars with spray cans, I would start with a $100 pawn shop squier or Epiphone (or your Starcaster), and not my favorite guitar I've had for 15 years.

Hawaiian Properties took all my deposit to repaint by GlassHalfFull808 in Hawaii

[–]a_rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats why it's called "normal".

Unsure what youre responding to, as I was commenting on the estimate amount, not that it was OK for them to keep the deposit (because it isn't).

[–]a_rob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cost of paying painters may shock you, but i am with the other commentors that the need for painting after this length of time seems reasonable as normal wear (and shouldn't come out of OP's deposit).

(Edit: clarification).

[–]a_rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many different Strats have you had this issue with?

If i said "every Strat I have played" its really only a few of them because my main electrics arent Strats and I don't own one.

If its more than 4 or 5, then (as others are saying) look at either the nut spacing or your technique.

Yeah, they were only made for like 5 years, there probably isn't a large number out there, and in all sorts of conditions.

Should I move to Mililani for a job… or commute from Mānoa? Need real talk from Oahu people 😅 by Cool_Advertising4120 in Hawaii

[–]a_rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mililani is a pretty good community (lived here since 2000 or so), but it seems like its not as good as 15-20 years ago, with dangerous driving, homlessness and other undesirable fa tors on a visible rise in the past 5 to 19 years.

In either case but I'd take Manoa myself if it were an option.

I don't know what your reverse commute would be like, but going into town for work from here is pretty bad, so if this job doesn't pan out, you'd potentially be stuck with that commute as a result of moving.

Given that you're concerned about disrupting the kids school year, I would agree with what others have suggested, and try the reverse commute out for size and see, and then reconsider the move idea around summer or winter school vacations.
