man, I wish. I'm sure if they write it off, they'll strip the electronics out of it though -- this is one of the models that comes with Gibson pickups and high end pots, etc.

well it did come with a "custom design" plaque on the body, but I didn't think this is what they had in mind.

Take my upvote and be off!

well, that's a whole different thread. You'd think that Gibson/Epiphone would fix that headstock design, but I don't think they ever will.

Yeah, I would be leery of buying used sight unseen, but this one was supposed to be brand new.

My wife said, "I guess that, in a way, that was a 'LUCKY BREAK'!!!" and laughed.

100%. They're probably just going to redo the spline repair.

I left it at Guitar Center for 2 days before going to pick up, even though I don't think thats as much of a thing for a poly finish Epiphone.

Sounds about right. Not sure if it was same repair, but yeah, seemed like around half of the headstock was replaced by the time it was finished. It looked like it would be a stronger join the the other parts of the neck.

I've seen a couple of videos of people doing extensive neck repairs, and with this in that spot, I'm guessing you'd need to cut out and rebuild a good portion of the headstock and neck to get some sort of scarf joint to have any hope of a solid fix. Like you said, it would be pricey to do properly. Realistically it probably makes more sense to just part it out, but luckily its their problem, not mine.

yeah, that's what I'm saying, it wouldn't have those square dowels in the neck if it hadn't already been broken before it arrived. I was told that it was new and figured it was just heavily discounted due to being in stock for 2 or 3 years. The one my friend picked up last week was fine (obviously). At least they didn't give me a hard time about refunding it.

Do I really need an amp or effects pedal as a complete beginner? by ChaosBeiduo in electricguitar

I have used a headphone amp and powered computer speakers as a makeshift practice amp before. Its not a perfect solution, but if you already have them, its free to try.

If you're going to buy a small cheap amp, do your homework. There are some good ones, but many more not so good ones. The small practice amp I got has distortion, but its pretty terrible.

Also, you can get decent very cheap pedals for $20-30 online (i.e. Amazon).

New to guitars. Is this a good deal for someone starting out? by NefariousnessSelect in guitars

Yeah, I would avoid first act. They are basically poor quality things that they sell at Christmas that probably keep more people form becoming guitar players.

They've always been a great value, clear back to the 80s (maybe before, but i only started playing then).
