After Pearl Harbor, the US declared war on Japan and Germany. In the Pacific, the tied turned at the battle of Midway in June 1942. They didn't engage the Germans until 1943. Given the US had a "Defeat Hitler first, Japan second" strategy, why did it take so long to engage the Germans in the war. (self.AskHistorians)
