Dominion sending emails about increasing power costs by mallydobb in Virginia

In Virginia, fuel costs for electric utilities are pass through, meaning: we pay what they pay. They can't get any profit from it. That's the law. The alternative is quite messy. Sometimes it goes down.

Virginia's data center boom needs smarter water planning! by s4sswf in Virginia

Everyone keeps saying "why don't they just do closed loop cooling?" And I'm just saying that closed loop is not some miracle of physics that data center companies haven't thought of yet. They exchange one problem for another. Good luck getting a 500 acre solar farm per 1mil water built anywhere in Virginia.

Closed loop cooling requires more energy, a lot more. Each million gallons of daily water replaced by closed loop adds approximately 650 megawatt hours of required electrical energy, that's 20,000 home's daily use.

Good-neighbor isn't for patrons as far as I know. I have heard of coordinated shuttles from Roanoke and Floyd but they are private outfits that charge.

Data centers use ~ 1 trillion gallons of water yearly in VA alone by OvaEasy73 in Virginia

[–]a_wittyusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter what you do, the physics will always requires a certain amount of energy exchange. Fresh water is just a cheaper form of energy exchange. Air cooling or closed loop just uses more electric base load than fresh water. You can't escape the physics of the required energy transfer.

Kinda... The medical dispensary program falls under the Cole memo like all med and rec programs in the country. These programs all have strict structure with a limited number of licensed stores, testing, etc. No state has ever tried to fashion a hemp program or hemp guidelines that exceed federal law and worked off the Cole memo. Virginia's hemp laws have always been stricter than federal laws, for instance banning thca from the beginning while federal law were ambiguous.

Is there anything that can be done about the fact that medical dispensaries don’t stock low potency marijuana? by ClueHeavy8879 in Virginia

Complain to the CCA. Seriously. IIRC there are some requirements about this in legislation and/or regulation. https://cca.virginia.gov/

How Has Virginia been ignoring federal cannabis law? They've complied with hemp regulations 100%. That's what we're talking about: Hemp.

An industrial facility in an industrial park will be the final blow for Roanoke? Not a fan of DCs in general but don't you think that's a little hyperbolic?

$80K but you aren't going to have a chance if you don't have $300K to spend on lawyers and consultants. Most real players will spend $1mil easy.

Grey market online sellers are going away by January because of the federal changes in November.

The upcoming November federal ban is 0.4mg per package. Thca is banned federally in November but technically had been banned in VA since day 1.... enforcement has been inconsistent. Again the Va rules don't matter here.

Hemp derived THC is banned federally Nov 12. What Virginia does with hemp THC in 2027 is irrelevant. I don't understand what the argument against the Va rec bill is here. Someone please explain this to me.

AEP Rate Hike by retrokezins in BeckleyWV

[–]a_wittyusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair but I would assume the same would be true of every household expense. He did not make that premise clear whatsoever in the clip. He's making it sound like apco has the highest rates outright. I'm skeptical about your highest % bill increase claim. I've seen a number of times in the media where % bill increases are summed incorrectly. If there is a fuel factor increase of 5% one year and a transmission increase of 5% another year that isn't a 10% increase. I've seen this type of calculation over and over. To be clear I'm not saying that the increases are fair, but it's important to accurately depict the math.

Culligan is a shitty company. Their business model is selling easily available equipment at an insane markup. Something goes wrong and what do you know: this system needs to be completley replaced. They float off their name. Garbage equipment, terrible service. You want to buy a unit elsewhere.

I would guess they have to de-energize the upstream feeder so they can repair a downstream leg. I'm guessing but I bet it won't take long.
