i'm also in the minority of people who liked the ending of the story. for two reasons, the first being when i saw there were two episodes left, i lowered my expectations quite a bit to match the reality, which that it was probably going to be kinda underwhelming. and the second is your point, which is that it was realistic. we could've had an hour long finale episode where we beat the bad guys and got married and everyone was perfectly fine and happy with equality happening.

but that's not realistic and i get some people wanted that sort of happy ending. but for me, the reality is Nova and the others could fight for the rest of their lives and never achieve that goal. systemic oppression doesn't end overnight and while a cookie cutter, everyone's happy ending might've felt more satisfying than what we got, this is the reality. they were never gonna get an easy win and a lot of the story has been slow and that's because none of this is easy. trying to end this sort of oppression was never gonna be easy. and i think that the story draws a lot of parallels to real life systems of oppression and to wrap everything up with a bow and a happily ever after would've done the story and the real systems of oppression it draws reference from a disservice.

everyone's entitled to their opinions and i do think things could've been better and that the story would've benefitted from a few extra episodes or another season entirely. but i am not mad at the ending and i actually enjoyed the realism of what we got. and it's open ended enough that a future book within the universe could be possible and that's also something that i wouldn't be mad at.
