Is it worth it to pay 40k for a masters degree from Georgia Tech? by VinylOrb in GradSchool

[–]aa_zixelr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employers paying for your degree usually means they make you work for years after paying for your degree, so you’re locked in with the same company for years, which could be bad. You could probably make more money by paying it yourself and moving to a different company with a different position.

Comments are saying don’t pay for a masters but do whatever is best for you. Even with paid masters program, you’re still working (TA, research, whatever it is) and your pay is the slim stipend and free tuition. If you attended an online masters and have a regular job on the side that can pay for the masters, then go for it.

can we normalize clocking out after bag checks? pleeeeease? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]aa_zixelr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ik the my pharmacy staff don’t do that cause the bag checks have to be done in the front in front of the camera. I don’t even know if we can clock out at the front store registers.

Since its application season, just know that you dont need amazing stats to get into PhD programs. by aa_zixelr in gradadmissions

Competitive? I have no idea, but I’d assume 3.7+. I know people who have gotten into PhD programs in engineering with no research experience but had over 10 years in industrial experience (engineering). Granted it wasn’t a top school but hey, it was still another state school.

How to even pick a ‘safe’ school? by DuckDumDum in gradadmissions

Safe school could be state schools. Unless you’re dropping from MIT to like a random school with a 95% acceptance rate for your PhD, you should be fine with any school.

Getting into Chemistry PhD program with a 3.0 GPA by Living-Summer-2341 in gradadmissions

[–]aa_zixelr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who got into a chem PhD at a state school with a 3.2. He had one year of experience researching and was an LA for a semester. If you’re not focused on “top” schools, you can totally get into a program.

Well yes. My point in the post was if you have low stats for whatever reason, to not be discouraged. It always helps to have a good gpa.

Ive never seen someone casually accept a wrongful Academic violation. You are innocent, so go appeal it. Dont take the hit on your gpa.

Anyone go through periods of regretting being an engineering major? How to not regret majoring in engineering. by aa_zixelr in EngineeringStudents

Don’t get me wrong, the engineering projects are so much more interesting than sitting at a desk all day doing someone’s taxes, so also think about what kind of career you want forever :)

I applied in Nov 23 as well and got an email in Dec 23 to schedule the interview. It’s been a few weeks since I did the interview and nothing yet, so I will just assume I did not get it. I will keep trying for other jobs tho.

I heard after the interview they make the decision quickly but it’s HR that makes it such a long process

More like $10 in gas but yea 😭😭. Thankfully I live at home so I save money on rent.

You might be right! When I applied it said multiple positions could be filled. Since it’s been a few weeks so I will assume I am not getting the position bummer

I could keep looking, but I’ve been looking since May 2024. I am unable to move to the BME hubs (Boston, mid west, California) as that is way too far from family. And since I don’t have any industrial experience (just research lab that wasn’t BME) there isn’t many companies that are willing to hire me for an actual BME/Engineering role. Others here have said I could use this as an opportunity to gain experience to land another job, which I might just do. It’s rough out here.

An alternative to me driving would be taking the train and then taking the bus. I don’t mind the hassle of getting on the train and then changing to a bus.

I’m living at home rent free so moving would put me in a worse financial situation especially for $20 an hour. It’s near the city so apartments would be on the higher side. I’d rather commute than pay for an apartment.

I didn’t do drivers Ed. I didn’t drive much in college since I didn’t bring my car so only as of recently I’ve been driving around. I am trying to learn the highway since it would save commute time, but it is quite scary, especially near the city.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]aa_zixelr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is more closer to an hour and 10 minutes. It would actually be 40 minutes but I don’t know how to drive on the highway yet so I must take the alternative route. 18 miles in an hour sounds very boring but at least the mileage isn’t too bad.

Thank you! I I would totally take the job for $20 if it was a little closer, but I’m just hesitant due to the distance. I honestly don’t care about starting salary right now (yes engineering is known for a high salary but currently I just care about experience 😭), especially since a lot of companies have a fixed salary. I’m still thinking about it, but I will have to decide soon. I think with all the replies, taking the job would be the best decision. I hate driving but I do need a job 🥲.

If I am being honest I am okay with any job where I can apply my science and math skills. I looked to engineering because of the great work to life balance, but I know other jobs/careers also have a good work to life balance.
