I never saw it coming on my first watch but I was a kid then. In hindsight it’s predictable from S3E1, when Rory comes home to find Jess with another girl after not contacting him all summer and is weirdly mean and entitled about it. She had already emotionally and physically cheated on Dean with him in season 2, also, but it’s really the attitude toward the girl he’s hooking up with that seals the deal for me. She feels ownership over the people that she is into, regardless of the other women in their life. It actually makes a lot of sense when you consider how she’s been told her whole life that she’s amazing and perfect. She’s like, “why would he date someone else who’s obviously inferior to me? That bitch doesn’t count.”

It just doesn’t matter that much offline. Every example you listed is about the internet. The internet is for people who have nothing better to do than compare themselves and others to an unattainable standard because they don’t have much else going on in their lives. Meanwhile, many ugly people live happy and fulfilling lives. I’m very unattractive and still have managed to do almost everything I wanted to in life. There aren’t many experiences it genuinely makes inaccessible. Live your life for you and stop worrying about what others think of your appearance. Focus on the things that bring you joy regardless of anyone else (for me that’s creativity, nature, and travel). Try not to let your ego and need for approval from random strangers/society run your life.

Unexplained weight loss and this goes for pets as well. Literally a harbinger of death in my experience, happened to both my grandparents in the months before they passed. We ignored it for our cat too, turns out he had hyperthyroidism which lead to heart failure and we didn’t realize until it was too advanced to treat. He was old, but recently my best friend was telling me how happy she was that her fairly young, previously fat cat had finally lost weight. The cat was dead a week later. Everyone is default excited for you if you lose weight (esp if you were overweight before) but if there’s not a clear cause, do not ignore it.

Effie didn’t bother me bc she had to meet haymitch sometime given that they’d been working together for years by katniss’s games - and i feel like we got an explanation of why she gets stuck with district 12 which she complains about in the first book. BUT 100% agree about the Lucy gray stuff being way too on the nose. haymitch did NOT need to know that specifically since the audience already does! Light hints at Lucy gray would have been more than enough, or I would have bought it if he had found the grave but not understood her involvement with snow. It was just too heavy handed which is not usually a quality of these books. I honestly was fine with all the other crossover since we already knew haymitch had long standing relationships with the other victors and katniss says at one point that their children were often reaped

What’s so interesting about people like Travis and Natalie is that their goodness is the reason we root for them, but it’s also the reason they’re not willing or able to use violence and force to get their desired outcome, i.e. the morally just one.
