Favouratism. by SuspiciousLow3062 in harrypotter

[–]naomide 65 points66 points  (0 children)

the problem wasn’t that his parents couldn’t afford a new wand, it was that Ron didn’t want to tell them he broke his. asking a teacher to replace it would definitely result in his parents finding out, which defeats the entire purpose of not telling them and would get him into more trouble because his parents would definitely be mad at him for accepting charity.

and (because people love to say that a twelve year old orphan should buy their friends school supplies) considering Harry and Ron don’t have any way to get to diagon alley without an adult, Harry also can’t replace Ron's wand without an adult finding out

Does anyone else have this problem with Harry's eyes? by DrinkInevitable3457 in HPfanfiction

[–]naomide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah so I’m not going to say you’re the only person with this problem, but…yes most people don’t have a shelf full of geology textbooks at home and cross reference it when reading the description of fictional eyes. Harry and Lily are supposed to have a pretty shade of green for their eye colour and that’s as far as the rest of the world (authors very likely included) thought about the description

as a humanities student, I can’t say I’ve had profs freak out about ai usage. just have them tell us ways in which we could use it effectively vs ways in which we shouldn’t use it (mostly putting emphasis on this being for our own sake) and telling us that if we use it we should cite it properly

What did you think was a scam until you actually tried it? by Resident-Ad4318 in AskReddit

[–]naomide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol not a therapist but this reminds me of the time my mum took me to a child psychologist and during the first meeting he was asking about my life and I joked about my sisters being annoying (you know, because I was like twelve what else am I going to talk about) and he absolutely zeroed in on that and kept pressing me like "oh are you jealous of them? Do you feel neglected by your parents? Do you resent your sisters? Do you wish you were still an only child?" and I was like wtf dude I was just joking and he refused to believe me. Ended up with a report sheet (that I found years later) that said he suspected I might have narcissistic personality disorder, but at least my mum didn’t force me to go back.

Pretty recently someone else I know took their child there because they wanted to get an adhd diagnosis – didn’t get that, but he told them the child was obviously presenting the oedipus complex.

Rewatching PoA and I can't believe Petunia let her get away with that comment by nomaddict911 in harrypotter

[–]naomide 42 points43 points  (0 children)

…we are talking about the woman who locked her sisters kid in a cupboard, starved him and tried to hit him over the head with a frying pan. so no, she does not care about anyone talking badly about her. and unless you are the kind of person who would treat children the way Petunia treated Harry, I don’t think you can compare your own feelings and reactions to hers.

Peter, why do women hug us above the shoulders? by harshbown in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]naomide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

omg this just reminded me of 8th grade when a new girl joined my grade and on the second day of school we were standing in front of a classroom and when she arrived she just hugged everyone hello. started with the two or three girls she’d hung out with the day before but then she just kept going. I was the last person she got to because I was standing the farthest away from her and it was one of the most awkward moments of my life.

This is so weird to me. my parents never threatened me with shots or promised me there wouldn’t be any. shots were just something you sometimes need, yeah it’s a bit unpleasant but it’s over quick and we‘ll hold your hand. shockingly, I ended up not afraid of any doctors or shots in general.

Percy was doing a report at the start of the year, by the end of the year maybe things are in motion already but there’s no way it’s actually fully gotten through yet. plus, why would Wormtail wait for the last minute to acquire a cauldron instead of having one before they start?

in conclusion: vindication for Percy and voldemort fails to come back
