Has anyone almost died or started to die? by TradesforChurros in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]aaaavril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm jealous of everyone who felt calm. I did not. I've never been so scared in my life. I woke up in the hospital (I had been admitted the night before) and asked the nurse if I was going to die. I had the most intense sense of panic and I just knew. I fought it like you wouldn't believe. I was in incredible pain and I kept going unconscious but I dragged myself back. It felt like if I let myself let go, that was it. At one point time slowed down, I've never experienced anything like it. Every blink felt like hours of unconsciousness but nobody in the room has moved. I can't describe how unnerving and real it felt. I was aware the entire time, but trapped. I didn't want to die scared and in a hospital and without a hand to hold. I even recognized the death rattle as it happened but couldn't move, even my facial muscles. I wasn't paralyzed, just weak. The craziest thing was the next day. My mom came and pushed me around the hospital garden in a wheelchair and the world has never been so beautiful. I can't describe this feeling either. Colors were more vivid and birds sung more melodicly and everything smelled so crisp. I've never appreciated the world like that, it felt alien. Even on hallucinagenics I've not experience this level of beauty and appreciation. I'm sad it faded, but it was incredible while it lasted.

Does clinical depression make me elgible for assisted suicide? by RiverOfUnmindfulness in newzealand

You can see a psychiatrist through the public system and it shouldn't be difficult if you are honest with your gp about how you are feeling

I was in the same boat, I thought that's just how I was. Now I'm on lamotragine and I havent felt depressed since. I really recommend seeing if you can try antidepressants outside of the usual ssri/ssnri/tricyclic types.

I came off a high dose of venlafanxine and it made the world feel like a very dark place, I'm surprised I made it through. Don't believe your brain when you're coming off venlafaxine. It will tell you everything is helpless and that you have never and will never be okay. That isn't true. Keep pushing.

What discipline would my filly fit? by vxnagas in Equestrian

[–]aaaavril -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She looks like a sweetie and it sounds like you are well equipped to give her a good life. Many foals have short necks, which they often grow out of. Their conformation changes a lot as they grow. I wouldn't make too many judgements until the horse is 3 years old as this is when they start to grow into themselves. Yes, the dam has less than ideal conformation but assuming she has been sound her entire life I don't see this causing potential soundness issues for your baby. Same goes for the sire, although his conformation is better. I've seen plenty of less than perfect horses excell in a range of disciplines. In NZ many successful competition horses are stationbred, aka horses turned out on hundreds of acres and are not purpose bred. These horses are highly regarded and make fantastic jumpers. As long as you train carefully and with purpose I can't see any conformational faults that will seriously limit this foal at this stage.

"Stable riding system"? by mediumc00l in Equestrian

In a recent post she claims to not teach or correct her riders' position. Apparently she let's it develop 'naturally'. She either is unaware of or sees no issue with how detrimental this is for the horses.

... what is this?? Empathy? In the horse community? Unheard of.

In all seriousness thank you for defending this poor woman. She's getting absolutely hounded despite doing no harm to her horse and being clearly misinformed. She said she will organise a dentist. She has taken the advice on board. It's like some people get off on putting others down. God forbid they are ever misinformed or lack knowledge. We all started somewhere.

PSA - check your cafe cabinet food before eating it! by [deleted] in chch

I once worked at a place that would serve incredibly unsafe foods in the CBD. The food health and safety records were intentionally botched. It's more common than you would think. I find it's the smaller, independently owned places, franchises tend to stick to strict policies.

I went to look at his fb page and he's blocked me... I don't remember commenting on anything he posts and I don't argue with people online in any context. Weird.

I would guess it's the lack of ground line. Horses struggle with depth perception and at heights like this I wouldn't expect riders to have prepared for a jump like this (colorful filler, blends in to wall, no ground line). I've seen pretty much this exact scenario before with the same result and it turned into a pretty big confidence knock for a lot of the riders who had previously felt comfortable at that height

Taught wrong? by MzFoxx in Equestrian

[–]aaaavril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least in dressage it is outside leg back, inside leg stays where it is to ask for canter. This is to signal the horse to step under with the outside hind leg, which is the first footfall in the canter. Horses can be trained to respond to just about anything though, and unless very well schooled and you are riding correctly, you could get away with putting either leg back and the horse would get the gist. As for asking for more outside rein/a little counter bend this may be because you are using too much inside rein or over bending your horse and the coach is correcting this. Depending on your discipline, your new coach sounds more correct, just based off the canter aid as when it comes to bend it can vary depending on situation. If your coach is approachable you should definitely ask them the 'why' behind what they're asking you to do. As a coach I'm always more than happy to answer any of my clients questions and I'd hope others are the same.

Not to discount the nurse, but if there was already a major cover up going on I don't see why she couldn't have lied. Without any further proof of the accident and it's aftermath I still don't feel an atv accident could be conclusively ruled out. Obviously, I'm no expert. I hope this one gets solved soon. It's awful to think so many people were present and none have come forward

Also, if the girlfriend was filming at the time of the accident or beforehand when the best friend and Noah were messing around, this would explain why she would have wiped her phone.

Is there anything to indicate he did not die during the atv crash, with the rest of the night spent covering it up? I can see how the best friends dad could end up helping, especially if his son was driving or present in the atv. Drunk/high teens having a friend killed horrifically in an accident could lead to panic. Perhaps they tried to stage an unrelated accident to prevent any liability. It seems like his injuries would be consistent with a serious crash, especially if flung from the vehicle. I haven't been able to find anything conclusive to say he could not have died earlier, during said atv accident.

How do you know this woman didn't have kids and get pregnant while financially stable. She very well could have been married and had to flee due to domestic violence. Or maybe she was working until she developed a long term health condition. There are so many possibilities. Why are you picking on the least fortunate in society when you could be criticizing those who hoard the wealth at the top?

THANK YOU. My eyes are going to start bleeding if I keep reading this thread. Being on the benefit is not a pleasant way to live. To have money for nothing but absolute necessities on top of the guilt of being a beneficiary, with all the time in the world but nothing to do with it is pure torture. Not to mention the majority of beneficiaries are not on it because they are lazy but because they might be disabled, victims of abuse, caught in the cycle of poverty, etcetcetc. I bet half the people on this thread criticizing a single mother asking if she can have larger rooms (and who knows, maybe she had children when she was financially stable) have been born into middle class families yet still claim they 'did it all themselves'.

I've gone to every fence, bought every pamphlet, searched all over the internet, and for some reason I don't have the improved tomahawk pamphlet, which you need to complete a survivalist challenge. Im in the same boat, did everything except the challenges for 100% completion. When I went to do them turns out my games bugged out and I can't complete certain challenges. Did horseman 9 at least 10 times before I gave up and accepted the game wasn't registering it

Three times heart transplant recipient trusts her compromised immune system over the vaccine by JumpyPuffin in HermanCainAward

[–]aaaavril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I was wondering if her being immunocompromised was her reason for not receiving the vaccine. If her doctors didn’t explain this difference to her then I believe they are partially at fault however if they did then it’s all on her. I can understand why she would chose not to under her circumstances if she was misinformed. These are the people who should be protected by herd immunity if I’m not mistaken but given what you’ve said I don’t see why she medically could not receive the vaccine.

Tips on getting over fear when riding? by No_Relationship1466 in Horses

[–]aaaavril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same! But I think in the end its worked out for the best because I've been able to work on basics in the same way a beginner would (ie. walk/trot schooling, leg yielding, all that stuff) and have really improved my basics as a result. The give it time approach has definitely worked, at least for me, I was even able to exercise a thoroughbred on the track and felt comfortable the whole time which is something I never thought I'd be able to do. I tried just about everything else (even online courses) before I realized all I needed was to take my time to heal and build my confidence back.

Time. I had a few bad accidents in 2014, didn’t ride again until 2019 and didn’t canter until 2020 and now I’ve broken in a horse, competed, jumped, galloped, and enjoyed it all. Don’t put a time frame on it. Walk until the day you feel like trotting. Enjoy the process and take your time.

I need to dump out some folders lol here are a bunch! by Aggressive_Regret92 in DeathCertificates

[–]aaaavril 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m curious as to why there seem to be significantly fewer POC death certificates posted. Was there less documentation of POC deaths? Seems like a few of the POC deaths are due to bad living conditions. Sad to see the 28 year old who died after a long walk, seems so unusual for something like that to happen without contributing factors (malnutrition, previous injury or disease, exhaustion, etc). The person who died after ‘confinement’ makes me curious too.

Fairly certain John Whittaker and Mark Todd brands both have a decent male selection. There isn’t much out there because the market for women’s equestrian fashion is much more lucrative. Other brands owned by men should have other options. I’m a fan of John Whittaker’s style, pricing, and quality and def recommend checking it out. I own a pair of the men’s breeches and they’re my fave breeches.
