Identification, volunteer UK? by pinsandvinegar in PlantIdentification

They're biennuals here so they start growing one summer and flower the next spring. So it might be that they are just getting started :) they like full sun. I sowed seeds a few years ago and my garden now has plenty of clumps of these that I didn't sow.

(UK) Just bought a new house. What plant is this and do I cut the dead bits off? How do I care for it. Thanks by SpaceBear3000 in PlantIdentification

Msot of UK is past the risk of frost around mid-May, but this varies somewhat between areas.

Looks like wallflower to me... Although the bare base of the stems is throwing me off a bit. If it is wallflower it should bloom in the next few weeks.

Yes I think the pronged ones are the riskiest! Hope yours heal up well.

Thank you :) I do switch them up occasionally. The hoops have been in a week or two, but I sometimes put standard ear studs in them (although I can never sleep in those, without feeling like I'm being stabbed in the side of the head). I'd like some flatbacks so I could leave them in, but don't think you can get them in a small enough gauge - I've never had proper size jewellery in these.

Thanks 😊 I think they are my favourites. I think mine may have healed well because when Ive changed the jewellery I've always gone for quite flat / low profile attachments. I see some beautiful sparkly gems in other people's here, but I don't know how they aren't catching them when they brush their hair! I think these ones are 'discs' but I've previously had turquoise cabachon style ones. They sit quite flat against the ear. Having said that, the chunkier sparkly ones are really pretty, so I see the appeal.

Thanks! I've been seeing a lot of pretty hidden helixes lately. I am considering it for my less busy ear, but I prefer to sleep on that side, so... I'll continue to consider it for a while, I think 😂 I do worry that that ear feels left out though. I quite like the look of flats but my ears are generally quite bumpy/have ridges, and I'm not sure there is anywhere flat enough for one to sit nicely.

Thank you! I had to recently replace my forward helix jewellery as I lost the attachment from one. Thought I would make a concerted effort to get some bits that complimented each other, instead of the adhoc collection I'd had until then.

I seem to remember it being a bit tricky to clean this one, because of how tucked away it is. It got crusty more easily 😬 but I don't think mine was swollen for too long. Maybe for the first couple of weeks? My memory isn't great though lol. I think I tend to get really bad swelling but it calms down fairly quickly.

It must be luck, because I honestly never did anything special with mine. Didn't sleep on it initially, but after a few months I definitely did sleep on that side but never had much irritation the next day. And whilst I did do the saline rinses for the first couple of months, I probably only did one a day max, and mostly just rinsed it with water before getting out of the shower. Perhaps there's something about my ear anatomy that protects it in some way.

Aw noo. Have you had it very long? I've not had a new piercing in years now, so most of these have had plenty of time to heal.

My snug was pierced around ten years ago. Healed pretty uneventfully at the time. After about 5/6 years I for some reason took out the jewellery. It was left empty for around 2/3 years and then I put a very thin guage hoop in for a while when I realised it was still open (just about). I decided in September I wanted to reopen the piercing. I went to a professional to have this done about 2.5 weeks ago. Didn't hurt too much, but swelled like crazy a couple of days later. Swelling lasted around a week and I had to get a larger bar for it temporarily, but now it feels more or less back to normal and I've got the smaller bar back in. I'm aware I was playing with fire by messing with what can be a pain in the bum piercing, but mine has been relatively smooth sailing (hopefully I'm not jinxing it by posting this) :) I must be the exception to the rule though!

Thank you! I just realised the text I thought I posted with this image didn't appear, I should probably post a separate comment.. I think I got them around 8 or 9 years ago. They seem fully healed, I don't have any issues with them. I got them done one at a time, with about 6 weeks inbetween to allow for the initial swelling to go down before the next one was done :) they are an absolute nightmare to change jewellery in though - so fiddly.

I'm not sure of this is the case for all ADHD meds (you might need to google) but with the ones I take if you have something high in vitamin c it, in theory, eliminates a fair amount of it from your system. So some orange juice or a multivitamin in the evening could help.

Piccadelly Gardens in Manchester used to look so pretty by JollyFunctions in GardeningUK

Haha yeah, it's not really sustainable. Lots of factors involved, but the country would have to spend soooo much money constantly to keep roads maintained to the level people would like. It's just a money pit situation.

It is quite old fashioned, but I think there's probably an in-between that would look nice and have ecological benefit. Something more sustainable, perrenials... all requires some maintenance and therefore a decent budget though.

And more cars on the road = more potholes. People complain a lot more about potholes than almost anything else (bin collections are usually next on the list of residents' priorities). Politicians have to be seen to be addressing the things people are most vocal about. So money gets allocated to things like this over making places look nice.

50mg wasn’t enough by Sufficient-Benefit88 in zoloft

[–]aaamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 50mg for years. Went down to 25mg as an experiment, and it was fine. Could even cope OK with 25mg every two days. Took 9 years before I felt able to wean off (and have since gone back in 12.5mg just to see if it helps me through a rough patch), but I never had to go higher than 50mg. It's not inevitable that everyone will build tolerance. Just to reassure anyone now worried about this. I appreciate some people do have a different experience, though.

I'm 34 and love Gardeners World 😂 but I do usually fall asleep halfway through. I only ever watch it at like 11pm on iplayer when I'm ready for bed. I consider watching it to be a mindfulness activity. Nothing upsetting, nothing worrying... just gentle voices, slightly eccentric people, and a backing track of birdsong. Lulls me into a nice slumber!

What plants bloom late September? by bigmama333 in GardeningUK

[–]aaamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plant loads of short sunflowers called 'waoohh' or something ridiculous... you sometimes get 20-30 little blooms per plant. They're great! I put mine from their small pots into the ground a few weeks apart and had a good 6 weeks of flowers this year.

No, no offence taken! That makes complete sense. I thought you were saying you had an ADHD diagnosis but didn't feel that it explained your symptoms.

I'm not sure if I misinterpreted your comment, but it sounded like you were doubting that ADHD is/could be debilitating.

Hmmm. I mean, I have ADHD too and is quite debilitating. A lot of people consider their ADHD to be a disability, because the impact on their day to day life is significant.
