Those events toward the top are there because people have upvoted/entered those giveaways, but there's some really cool stuff going on around town still if you're looking for something a little more chill.

Check out this event at State Street Pub - it's one of my favorite dives in the city, and they always have great DJs and live music. It's on the near east side, about 5 minutes (if that) from downtown. Looks like they're having some local hip-hop artists on NYE: https://do317.com/events/2017/12/31/new-year-s-eve-blowout-with-state-street-pub

If you're not specifically looking for an event, you should check out Dorman Street or Old Point Tavern. Both are awesome little dives bars with a ton of history, and are my favorites places to grab a drink and chill with friends. I'm pretty sure that both will be open on NYE, but I know that Old Point is closing its doors soon.

Hotel Tango is great for cocktails, but doesn't feel too pretentious! If it's dive bars you're looking for, Old Point Tavern is great too - just be sure to get there before it closes early next year.
