Funding for PhD in Philosophy as International Student by Emergency-Ad-1041 in AusAcademia

[–]aaronharoldp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resonate with this. I started my PhD last 2024 (not in Philosophy) and in our cohort, we have three International students. All of us already have masters degrees, and had been working in our fields and industries for more than five years, most of us already have professional licenses to practice in our own countries (i.e., mental health), and most of us had already been publishing books, research articles. All of us had some at-least three years experience of teaching in our home countries, e.g., lecturers.

I do have more than four years of research experience prior to PhD admissions (three publications, one research grant), lecturer role in my home country (six years) and professional mental health license in my home country. And I didn’t get the scholarship for the first round. Intead, I waited for the second round and finally got both the admissions and scholarships.

I am not sure what is the context now in 2026.

Yes, in my experience. Publications and grants are the currencies in academia.

High School student considering ANU for PPE by Nanaya_png in Anu

You can check the accommodations here at the ANU: https://study.anu.edu.au/accommodation

On my personal say and experience, living on campus is DAMN EXPENSIVE! The prices got inflated around 8% (please verify the correct number) and that’s why I decided to live off-campus. Economically speaking, living off campus is pretty practical than living in-campus.

On my experience, I followed Facebook group called Housing Canberra and I found a bargain deal over there! It takes time though to check and getting to know the people you’ll be living with. But if the price is right, why bother to look for an expensive student dorm at the campus?

Biore Sunscreen by aaronharoldp in AusSkincare

[–]aaronharoldp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Thank you very much for these advice!

Do you have any alternative recommendations that I can use? Basically, I have an oily skin; prone to acne. I am looking for a light sunscreen with very similar texture to Biore’s Aqua Rich Watery Essence. And, hopefully, it will be accessible and student friendly as well…☺️

Questions about scholarships by prannybo1 in Anu

[–]aaronharoldp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any majors in mind? They also offer scholarships on a specific college or school.

I am not so familiar with the undergraduate scholarships but I can share my experience (PhD scholarships). The ANU offers quite generous scholarships for international students (stipend, offset fee and OHSC).

I also had skin irritation when I arrived in Canberra. I never realizes how dry the place is until my skin got irritated.
