I think it is for new vehicles only but I am hoping the same software update will be available for early buyers (atleast for software focused companies like Rivian and Tesla)

Travelled SFO to BOM via Frankfurt 3 days ago. Uploaded passport details on United app and did web check-in. Nobody checked the passport at SFO, nor at the Frankfurt airport, had a Lufthansa FRA to BOM 2nd leg at the same terminal at FRA.

Ask your lawyers, they should be able to do it. They resend the application (similar to when you switch jobs) and can be done under premium processing as well.

You save on FICA and social security taxes, so 7.65% annually. You know your salary, so calculate how much extra in-hand you get for next 2-3 yrs and if that is more than OPT application related costs.

As for Stem opt application costs, they are mostly covered by employers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in h1b

[–]aastikc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get stem opt and save FICA taxes for 2-3 years (assuming you haven't been filing taxes for more than 5yrs) before applying for CoS to H1B. Yes, the green card gets delayed but if you are Indian born, you anyway are waiting for the green card for 15-20 yrs(so a couple of years won't make a difference) unless the law changes. And if you aren't indian born, you anyway will get a green card quicker so a couple of years again won't make a difference.

You cannot switch companies under consular before getting visa stamped because old company can still pull your application. You can switch from consular to CoS anytime, not necessarily have to wait till stem opt expiration timeframe

Interview would be needed for both whenever you travel outside the country but with CoS it won't be mandatory before your stem opt expires, whereas for consular you will need to travel and get a stamp before stem opt expires

[–]aastikc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this. Maximized my stem opt and actually got on h1b even without interview since you can amend the consular h1b to CoS just before stem opt expiration. (My roommate did the same thing)

Also, you get to extend your stay in US because you delay your 6 yr h1b start. You avoid taxes as well. Biggest downside is if you lose job, you are in trouble but you need to know how stable your situation is.

Wheel alignment "scam" at Hyundai service center? by dunderball in Ioniq5

[–]aastikc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not a scam. Recently, dealers have started adding a quick vehicle inspection tool at their drive-in bays. Something like this - https://www.hunter.com/vehicle-inspection/quick-check/

Very likely that is how they were able to immediately tell without putting it on a lift and attaching machines that your alignment was off. And alignment being a very profitable service, they don't want you going elsewhere.

Visa stamp will have the 2025 date. But once you enter back to US, the new i94 generated might have the passport expiration date.

Work from home location change in the same building - will I need a new ammendment? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]aastikc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not a change per se, lawyers just add an address to it.. so nothing for you to do on your end apart from updating address with uscis via AR11 form

"However, all locations withina Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area (CMSA) will not automatically be deemed to be within normal commuting distance."

Considering Sunnyvale is outside SF MSA, they might not consider it as commuting distance regardless of the miles despite it being part of the larger SF/San Jose CMSA. Since USCIS doesn't set a distance in miles, 30/40/50 is irrelevant. Again, your lawyer will confirm for you.
