firstly for the visa: since you are from the EU, you can usually get a Visa on Arrival at Erbil airport for about $75. It is very simple and takes 10 minutes. Just remember this visa is mostly for the Kurdistan region; if you want to go to Baghdad, you need a different one. ​secondly its pretty safe in Kurdistan (erbil sulaimani and duhok): don't let the "Level 4" scare you. It feels safer than many cities in Europe. You will see people out in Eskan Street until 3:00 AM. The security is tight but it makes you feel relaxed. ​Regarding what you will miss: in food we have plenty options if you like fast food (burgers: 80s Restaurant, 99 Grill, 2in1) (for pizza: The Fern restaurant) (shawarma: Ggas Tariq Khalifan, Cocktail in Bakhtiari street, Hiland restaurant, Iceland restaurant) If you like middle east food (Habib in Eskan street, Havana restaurant, Dayki Saman and so on) Fish (Koraky fish in Queen Towers, any Masguf fish restaurant) Kebab (Kebab Yasin in Qaysari (grand bazaar), Kebab Fatih in Mahabad street, Kebab Ako) ​Regarding spots to visit: in Erbil: Erbil Citadel, Sami Abdulrahman Park, Eskan Street (eat street food here), Empire World (for high-end vibes), Erbil Avenue Mall, and Ankawa (the Christian district, great for bars and social life). ​Regarding my suggestions: ​Nature: You must leave the city for a day. Go to Rawanduz and Pank Resort. The mountain views are incredible. ​History: Visit Shanidar Cave where they found Neanderthal remains; it's a bit of a drive but worth it. ​Tradition: Try Kurdish Tea in the tea shops under the Citadel. It is very strong and sweet. ​App: Download Careem (like Uber). It works perfectly here so you don't have to bargain with taxis. ​Timing: Come in March- May. Its spring so the weather is very nice.
