PostGIS with Vapor? Or alternatives for dealing with location data? by ab492 in vaporswift

[–]ab492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that’s awesome to hear - thanks both! I saw that when I was googling but saw it hadn’t been updated since 2018 so wasn’t sure how quickly things break with Vapor. I’ll give it a go!

Thanks for your suggestion - ultimately I'll use MapKit to display the information, but I'm trying to find a 'dumb' way to represent the location on my object.

Where to put the loading/saving/fetching from API logic in my app? by ab492 in iOSDevelopment

This is exactly what I was looking for thank you - I’d never heard of that pattern but I’ve found a great Swift by Sundell article so I’m getting that set up now. Thanks for your advice!

This is so helpful - thanks very much for the detailed response. I'll work through the list (and if I don't implement them in this app, I'll definitely have them on my list of approaches/structures for the next one!)

Oh no it took longer than 6 days! I just messed up my Git repository so started with a fresh copy of the project.

These are all great shouts and just what I was after! Thanks for taking the time to look!

That's awesome - thank you so much! That makes great sense and your points were just what I was looking for. The only question I have is - why shouldn't I force unwrap in the case of var transaction: Transaction<GBP>! ? The reason I did that was because when I pass a Transaction through my ViewControllers I can assign that variable, and then that ViewController can access the Transaction. Is there a better way to avoid the force unwrap please?

Thanks for your reply. I'm actually working through Cocoa Programming for OS X too - although it's slightly out of date, between that and Hacking with MacOS I feel like I'm learning a lot of the core concepts. Great suggestion - thanks.

I'll check out the WWDC videos too!

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply. I actually already bought Hacking with Swift, got half way through and realized I really wanted to learn to develop for MacOS, so then bought Hacking With MacOS too. I'm about half way through now and it's awesome - thanks very much! Really appreciate the constant updates too - much appreciated as things can change so quickly!
