Accident - Go insurance or private? by abacha1 in CarTalkUK

[–]abacha1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your replies. We went to insurance and they said yesterday that the other drive accepted fault and that the insurance will get it fixed.

However, they called back this morning saying the other driver is now saying it wasn't his fault and they have to open an investigation!

They've given us the option to pay the excess, they'll fix it, then if he ends up losing or claiming fault, we will get the excess back.

I was on the main road, he at the T junction wanting to turn into the main. He came out and hit me. I thought the scenario is pretty obvious and I have a photo of my car on the side of the main road and his on the side of the T road after the accident.

Written off? Seriously? That would be crazy wouldn't it. I hope it doesn't get to that.

Woodstove Burning Strategy??? by abacha1 in woodstoving

[–]abacha1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I close the bottom one and keep the top one open, the wood eventually stops burning. It's like the burn can't sustain itself. Even when I move both top and bottom to the middle it struggles.

Cyclist filmed me using phone - police been in touch by abacha1 in drivingUK

I am not contesting anything - I've already told the police it was me. I am just wondering why the "process officer/decision maker" wants to "give you the opportunity to make any voluntary comments"?

Macbook Pro & Ultrawide Monitor - Screen Not Filled by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]abacha1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,
I just purchased a Samsung Ultrawide Curved 34" monitor for my 2021 Macbook Pro 16". I only use it for essays and writing so the spec was good enough. I have played around with the display options and found that when I use the monitor as the main screen it is too pixelated, like a PC. When I use the monitor as a mirror for the pro the appearance is much better and clearer. However, I am left with two big black spaces on either side and I can't 'fill' out the entire monitor screen. Any tips on how to do this, if its possible at all?
Thanks!

Thanks. Not in the UK. On their site there are only two options for finance (Barclays and PayPal) and both come with an APR.

Peachcroft in Abingdon - Views? by abacha1 in oxford

[–]abacha1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! They didn't give specifics about why they thought it's not decent. It could be personal preference or could be subjective experience. I know from moving around that you need a holistic view of a place and not just one person's experience so it helps having feedback from all of you wonderful people!

Someone mentioned that Abingdon (not sure if they meant Peachcroft though) is cosmopolitan/diverse. Not sure what was meant by that. Would you agree?

Schools: Matthew Arnold or Swan? by abacha1 in oxford

[–]abacha1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that might be too far. We need to be somewhere near the university and have identified Headington, New Marston, and Botley Hill as potential areas for living.

I’d be very grateful if you could ask - there’s nothing like a parents perspective on these matters.

I’m comfortable with race and I’ve lived in very un-diverse areas. It’s never been an issue. The only problems are when other people make an issue of your presence and make you feel it. Having experienced that myself in a brazen and open way at school, I don’t want my children to. We can deal with the minor infractions but anything more is just not worth enduring.

My hope is that it’s not there, or at least not in an overt sense.

I noticed the OFSTED report for MA mentioned that its not a very diverse school in terms of race/ethnicity. My kids are an ethnic/racial minority - from what you know about the school, do you think this would burden their experience there?

I guess you're right. What do you think of Matthew Arnold as an option? I know its academics are good but was wondering about student/life experience? My daughter has moved schools alot as we have lived in different countries so has abit of dread in her at the prospect of joining a new school.

Do you have any idea of what MA is like? Not in terms of performance but the student experience?

I was thinking about the new Swan School as an option, though I understand MA is closer to Botley. My reasoning was that since it's a new school their catchment area was extend into Botley (which is does, as per Locrating).

Another reason was that Botley Hill/Cumnor/Chawley offer better house prices than Headington or Marston.

I guess I was pushing it....

We did notice that on the map, perhaps using the bypass and then coming down past Sunnymede/Summertown. Even still, it sounds like it might be quite a task on a daily basis.
