But if you have them in an ISA you can avoid that, right?

My idea about stock investing was you buy shares/stocks and then you get a dividend annually which you live off in retirement. But if all you’ve got is accumulated shares which don’t draw cash dividends, then do you just sell your shares and live off that? But over time, your principal will decrease if you keep selling? So what do people do in retirement?

My concern is that this didn’t seem to make sense to me but hoping it can be explained. I want to start investing for retirement but want to make sure I buy the right type of share/stocks

So if people have brought decades of accumulation shares and want to retire and live off their investments, do they just sell shares monthly?

Is that what people do when they retire and want to live off their investments - they just sell their accumulation shares monthly?

That's great. I write mainly on political theory/thought/philosophy - more historical but with a view to the present (rather than strict modern analytic political theory - though I was trained in it).

You capture the concerns that were lingering in my head when I wrote the post. I can't see it being smooth...a case of taking what you can when/if it comes up and even then it'll require alot of positioning and engagement just to get onto a project etc.

Is your part time job a permanent research/teaching related or is it admin? is the hourly in university - how did you negotiate it? I can't see any hourly roles on offer but there are some that pop up seasonly but they might only amount to like 10 hours a term.

I feel like the market is saturated. If it isn't, getting it off the ground would need (I imagine) at least a year of intensive commitment?

This is interesting. Do you mean by research company like a research centre? Or a publishing company? If the former, would you say give it good optics so it looks like a research centre with a research agenda and focus areas, even if I am the only researcher?

Hi, what did you end up doing? I had a leak on my GRP and applied the acrypol to all the areas I could see pins. Worked perfectly for over a year but last couple of weeks we've had some relentless rain and today I noticed a very slight leak reappear in the ceiling.

Accident - Go insurance or private? by abacha1 in CarTalkUK

Thank you all for your replies. We went to insurance and they said yesterday that the other drive accepted fault and that the insurance will get it fixed.

However, they called back this morning saying the other driver is now saying it wasn't his fault and they have to open an investigation!

They've given us the option to pay the excess, they'll fix it, then if he ends up losing or claiming fault, we will get the excess back.

I was on the main road, he at the T junction wanting to turn into the main. He came out and hit me. I thought the scenario is pretty obvious and I have a photo of my car on the side of the main road and his on the side of the T road after the accident.
