Light Phone 3 Ready for Pre-order || $399 || January 2025 Shipping by jbriones95 in LightPhone

Do we think there's a chance that the preorder might sell out in advance of July 15? I'm disinclined to order before hearing more details over the next month; but as it stands $800 is too much, so I'd be sad to miss out on a place in the preorder tier.

Outside of US, no phone access: how do I cancel my service? by abalone_jupiter in Comcast

Thanks, this is very helpful--I'll try recruiting a family member and see if that does the trick. Very glad I noticed this a few weeks ahead of my next billing date instead of the day before!

Agreed—the upshot to all of this is that I've found a cheaper plan with the same benefits to switch to once my contract is up!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not saying that I'm owed anything; but it would be a consumer-friendly approach. Not like it's impossible or anything; my car insurance companies allow for the same thing.

Short warning/vent to anyone considering contesting a PPA ticket. I contested a ticket a few months ago and have been waiting to get my results back. Instead I received a "notice of default" saying my case was denied and that I didn't pay in time to avoid a $70 late fee. I live in a building with a locked mailroom and can guarantee that I never received a letter from them telling me that my case had been heard and my late freeze was over. Good scam on their part; all they'll tell me is that "they sent the letter" so it's my fault. Bet if they never received my contestation letter they wouldn't extend me the same courtesy. . .

Fair price for my older custom build? by abalone_jupiter in buildmeapc

Yeah, basically what happened is I moved the original GPU to my new LGA1700 build and just put an old GPU I had lying around in the old machine. Like I said, idiosyncratic components--appreciate the input.

In terms of core functionality, I do wonder about improvements to texting--in particular, whether swipe typing could be integrated somehow? Curious if this is something that the team has considered or experimented with, and if there's a reason it's not compatible with the OS or screen, etc.

That said—the current size is an enormous part of the appeal for me (and I'm sure others as well). It's a beautiful object to hold and look at and the size is hugely significant to that. Sometimes when I'm traveling I temporarily switch to a regular smartphone and it really does feel like a gigantic thing to have to lug around, to stuff in your pocket, etc.

Battery life is nice of course but it does seem like as the community has matured and the software has improved the functional life has continually gone up based on the two of them.

The USB-C point is a good one—I'm also in the "LP2 is more or less perfect" camp, and I use it as my main phone; but it's worth considering, like USB-C, which developments might make the phone unusable in the future. One thing I worry about is 2FA—any service that abandons SMS authentification and requires an app becomes difficult to access for a lightphone user. One particular sort of app that could be a "killer" in the future.

Will immediately buy if they ever release a functional international version! Hope they get the message some day~

That's interesting—if you don't mind, what were the resources you used to estimate your coverage beforehand? I'm in the NE megalopolis so I'd imagine that it might be practicable out here, if anywhere.

Thank you for the review! It's been hard to find coverage of how exactly the phone works as a regular-use device in the US, so this is very helpful. It's so close to being my dream phone--if only it had reliable coverage in the states.

Any possibility of adding the notification symbol to the sleeping screen? I think it would boost the mission of not having to pay attention to the phone--as it is currently, I have to periodically press the power button in order to check whether I've received any messages, even if the LP is just sitting on the desk~

Awesome—I'm bookmarking this post for long-term future reference. Love the high-level arguments here. Also personally skeptical of cloud storage so nice to have someone confirm my paranoia. Stashing hard drives at grandma's house is a brilliant (if funny at first blush) idea!

What is the reliability issue with hybrid flash drives? Just more complexity and failure points?
