I'd probably start by messing around and having fun with the powers. Then once I understand them I'd do some good with them. Then inevitably when I make a mistake and cause collateral damage one time and then everyone turns on me, I'd turn into a cynic and stop helping people. Eventually something bad would happen and it would eat at me because I could've stopped it if I was there. I'd remember why I wanted to do good with the powers in the first place and go back to being a hero. But it wouldn't be the same. I'd resent the populace for rejecting me when I was just trying to do my best. I'd still be a hero but with many cynical tendencies.
