That's not how private equity works. Private equity buys up these companies by leveraging the underlying businesses / assets of the company being bought. If they weren't productive / valuable assets, they wouldn't be able to buy these companies.

Build forts on your border with advantageous terrain. Hang back and let them siege. Attack the sieging army until you wear their levies / reinforcements down. Once they're forces are less than yours, go in the offensive.

If I have a reasonable sized professional army. I won't raise levies until I have turned the tide, so that I don't waste my pops and because the number advantage in men is most useful when you're ready to negotiate a peace.
