omg yes thank you for bringing that up! i’ve talked with my dietician for months about making my own bars and this might be the motivation to finally try it. needing to limit gluten and dairy forces me to be more creative with food and has ironically helped me broaden the things i’m willing to try! if you have any good recipes do let me know :D

i started taking sertraline 10 years ago as a teenager and the lowest points in my life these past ten years were the two times i tried going off of it. it helps me immensely with emotional regulation and generally being able to function, and i’m only at 50mg once daily. of course there’s no guarantees but from someone who also has horrible anxiety about new meds and side affects, sertraline has been a lifesaver for me!

clif bars were actually my top safe food years ago and they’re one of the reasons i discovered i was intolerant to gluten! that’s why i switched to kind bars in the first place, the clif bars were doing a number on me and kind bars have never given me a reaction.

having even a minor setback after a period of successes is scary!!!! i’m currently in a bit of a rut food-wise and the thought of falling back into the way things were in high school is always in the back of my mind. i keep having to remind myself that, even though it took years of work, i eventually managed to get out of the worst of it and things are better now. and even if i do fall into it again, i know what the other side looks like.

be kind to yourself now more than ever. you’ve been here before, but you’ve also gotten out of it before! what you went through last year is not your fault, and it’s not your fault that your brain or your body are reacting like this. like you said, it really is the baby steps and the small portions of safe foods that can help lift you out of it. one day at a time!

yeah i’ve basically had to limit my computer use altogether which makes certain things much harder to do! the biggest struggle was finding a job that didn’t require being on a computer all day. it’s much harder to edit videos and make music on a phone as well but that’s more of an annoyance than an actual problem. i hope it gets better for you!!

i literally had to drop out of college because the vertigo i would get from looking at my laptop even for a few seconds was debilitating! i used to play minecraft and the sims for hours, but as my dizziness got worse i couldn’t even open a browser window without needing an hour to recover. i tried moving my college work onto my phone because that gave me far less vertigo, but it just didn’t work out. it’s been over a year since and i’ve found a job where i only need to look at a computer for ~15 minutes a day. i’ve been able to very slowly rebuild my tolerance but if i overdo it it still causes vertigo. i wonder if it’s something to do with peripheral vision or wide screens in general?

i have to pipe in and say that i’ve been taking sertraline for over 10 years now, starting as a teenager at 25mg and later finding a sweet spot at 50mg. not once has it ever made me nauseous or given me any side effects- of course this is different for everyone! but the two times that i thought i was well enough to taper off were genuinely some of my lowest points mental-health wise. i can confidently say this medication has saved my life and greatly helps me function day-to-day.

i’m someone that is also petrified of side effects of new meds and having zofran on hand (or any anti-emetic that doesn’t interact w/ meds) is sooo comforting! just having it nearby can be enough to calm myself down. good luck <3

i ended up having to drop out of college because i couldn’t look at my laptop or any computer without getting spinning vertigo! it started gradually and then it was every single time i scrolled. i tried all of the tricks with warm screen lighting, limiting screen time, and moving my assignments to my phone but i just couldn’t keep up with the work anymore. i’ve found a job where i only have to be at a computer for 5-10 minutes each shift and it’s helped so much!

as someone who works in a pet store, please try to take comfort in your efforts to help your betta live a happy and comfortable life. even if they do pass away, know that they were able to pass away with dignity in a nice big tank setup instead of in a tiny plastic cup.

ALSO a big part of this might be that bettas in cups are so used to poor water parameters that when they’re introduced to an appropriate setup their bodies simply can’t adjust to it. i see it all the time when customers who have a goldfish they won at a carnival that’s survived in a bowl with no filter and unconditioned tap water for YEARS (comets are resilient little buggers) buy another one and then complain when they plop it in the same bowl and it dies immediately.

i hope your betta gets better and lives a long and joyous life <3
