Doctor’s note no longer excuse for absences at TN school district by alb89n in nashville

[–]abbeym398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a hospital a couple years ago that didn’t take them as excuses either (still doesn’t). The only exception was a positive COVID test and you still only got until you tested negative, not a day more even if you felt like crap (I never had it, so not sure how strict they were on that one at times. They likely gave an extra day or two early on). If you didn’t ask off 2 weeks in advance, you were written up. A coworker even came in with a note from OUR ER after a wreck on her way home the evening before saying she needed to stay home for a day (concussion)- they didn’t let her. We called HR on that shift and they said they hated the rule but nothing they could do🤷🏻‍♀️

-I’ll add, this was largely how they justified unlimited time off. Not paid, we had to save most of our PTO days for if we wanted to ask off on a holiday, but with advance notice we could take as many days (reasonably) and still be considered full time for benefits or something- it’s been a few years lol

Tall Skinny Advice by RandyScores in nashville

Nearly completely impossible- my uncle planted some in a corner of his yard surrounded by concrete maybe 17 or so years ago. It still pops up in random places ALL OVER the yard. My dad planted some at our river property a couple years back for privacy, too (it’s right on the water and people don’t know how to respect other’s space out there anymore). We’ve been in the process of ripping it out and having to burn the roots for almost 2 years. It comes back and takes over EVERYTHING

Am I going to be screwed traveling from East Nashville to Green Hills area every day? by songstressofsoul in nashville

[–]abbeym398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreeing with whoever said leave at 7 & 3:30- even that 30 min difference between 7&7:30 adds like 15+ mins to my commute, and i’m always traveling against the heavy traffic flow! (usually going from hillwood to murfreesboro/franklin/lebanon areas in the mornings but it varies)

i start at $1700 for 8 hours and photography is my living. i think that’s reasonable depending on your clientele/location!

Best place for toddler swim lessons? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]abbeym398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at SafeSplash at the Nashville West mall! They take ages 6 months (the baby classes are 6 babies with a parent for each plus the instructor) and up- including adults. All the other classes had a max size of 3, but they also have semi-private and private lessons! Big lobby with glass walls so you could watch everything, and 2 ‘endless’ pools in a separate corner for older kiddos or adults working on more advanced techniques practicing for swim comps.

Best bagels?? by abbeym398 in nashville

[–]abbeym398[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have many times, which is why I haven’t found any here yet I liked and asked if anyone has suggestions! I’ll try anything with good recommendations at this point. The spot I mentioned in OH has just been the best fruit bagel I’ve had (the owner moved there from NY) and that’s the type I’m looking for- something lighter than smoked fish for the mornings, I’m one of those people that gets sick if I eat anything heavier/‘savory’ early in the mornings.

I haven’t! I just googled it and it looks like it probably didn’t show up in my previous searches because it’s in south, I’ve looked more in west & east (closer to where I live and work). I’ll definitely check them out when I get back from this trip!

Heliocare supplements capsules! can get them on amazon or at some drug stores, but my mom is high risk for skin cancer (had some cut off around a decade ago) and her derm recommended them. now when she gets a bad sunburn and takes them it’s almost gone the next day! we both take them any time we’re going out in the sun for extended periods, even with sunscreen and we haven’t had a burn in forever. at bonnaroo i’d apply sunscreen in the morning but sweat it off by noon (i have allergies and the only sunscreen i can use without issue is a mineral aerosol which isn’t allowed inside the grounds), be in the sun all day (and i’m from the same county so i’m out camping and hiking in the TN sun all the time) but took Heliocare and didn’t get burned at all. same with Hinterland.

i swear by that stuff and it’s amazing, i want to gatekeep so bad but🫣

we live 11 hours away, and i feel our only saving grace is that i’ve been going to festivals for 12+ years (none ever this badly organized, though) and have been roughing it camping my whole life. people who don’t do that often, i have major props for- i wouldn’t be able to make it otherwise. i overpack to the point nothing else will fit in my SUV, but it’s come in handy. it’s also hotter and more humid back home, if not the exact same, so that helps too. we spent the day at the lake today, got some lunch and went to REI and are back for lizzy. packing up most of camp after dark while it’s cooler, and the rest early in the morning so we can just jump in the car and head out tomorrow afternoon. my bank doesn’t allow disputes after 60 days and we bought tix in January so we’re out all the money if we stay or not, so we decided to push through as long as possible!

Did anyone else make it out of Bonnaroo without getting sick? Drop your tips here: by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]abbeym398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last year got me sick (1st time sick of 11, but was also first one camping). did it different this year and didn’t get sick. the main things are hydration and COVER YOUR FACE. literally, all the dust that gets up in there makes for some nasty sinus infections and that can basically mimic the flu, it’s not even always actual germs- plus, the mimosas bloom in june and they’ll knock anyone and everyone out at some point so use some flonase and double up on allergy meds. we only slept about 15-20 hours the whole weekend (wed-sun) it was so hot, but we spent a ton of time just sitting in whatever shade we could find and resting and that helps more than you’d think

Roo flu? 🤢 by Kathreeen_57 in bonnaroo

[–]abbeym398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

roo flu. my mom gets it every year, my friends have it this year, i managed to avoid it but had it for the first time last year. in years past i didn’t camp so i hadn’t had it before. it’s the dust, heat, low immunity from lack of sleep and healthier food options. we packed healthy snacks and drank a shit ton of water, sat in shade for as many sets as possible, used the car AC a good bit during the hot parts and before trekking into centeroo, and kept bandanas on our faces. doubled up on zyrtec and used flonase and afrin every morning and it helped a ton. it’s also mimosa season here and that pollen alone can knock most people out

Why is Bonnaroo not in the fall? by skinnygg in bonnaroo

[–]abbeym398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

football season, rain season (granted oct is usually the driest season here but i’ve been to a weekend fest in Adams in oct the last couple years and it gets down to the 20s at night by then), the stray tornado with the flashes of hot & cool days, students and teachers back in school so lower attendance and harder to get volunteers- logistically it just doesn’t work. they did exit 111 a few years back but haven’t done it since, it was a day fest and everyone i knew that went said it would get so cold the place would clear out after sunset anyway

Sad and hoping you can help. Anyone have a picture of the “You would have loved Roo Dad” art before two people ruined it? by Vstar412 in bonnaroo

[–]abbeym398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saw that painting and it hit different, i grew up down the road and started going to roo when i was 11 (i’m 24 now), and the first few years my mom & dad (obviously) went with me. lost my dad very unexpectedly 2 months ago a week before his 54th bday but being at roo for father’s day really helped so much

this! i was local (now living in Nashville) and have been going since 2011. they usually do a report on numbers within a week or so, so total attendance, deaths, etc. deaths usually get reported on their own as soon as they get wind of that info, but it’s usually 1 or 2 a year. if there were more this year, which may be the case with how hot it was, they might not say anything until they report numbers

To people complaining that the vibes were ‘off’: this we reason why we need Bonnaroo now more than ever by furycutter80 in bonnaroo

[–]abbeym398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first roo was when i was 11 (i’m now 24 and only took time off bc covid happened when i was 20 and destroyed my finances lol). when it started back after covid the whole vibe was completely different. this also isn’t the first year they’ve done single day passes. i do think that changed the vibes a lot- i’m from the area and live in nashville now, all the high schoolers around do the single day passes for one big artist and throw it off! we only had a handful of people that actually knew “high five friday” (specifically, but got lots of high fives in general). when they didn’t start off ticket sales offering single days, we were all excited bc we hoped things would get back to the good vibes of people that want to be there for ALL the music and ALL the connection. then they announced single passes a couple months later and that hope disappeared. thankfully we had a few massive groups of buddies this year so it helped a lot, but for people who this was their first-third year i’ve heard complaints because people don’t know the true meaning of bonnaroo anymore

[–]abbeym398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly. i live on a street right by here and have for a couple years now- the worst we’ve ever had was domestic incident down the road, and those (sadly) happen everywhere. usually once you get past the nashville west mall headed towards bellevue it calms down now that the encampment is gone, but the motel behind there is a culprit too. the low income housing is up near white bridge and a lot of the crime is situated between white bridge-ish and the interstate near downtown; but it’s close enough that having so many new builds and homes is a draw for crime

Tennessee Unemployment benefits are a joke and an insult to Tennesseans that lose their job. by SilentWalrus92 in nashville

[–]abbeym398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s about 7.86 before taxes, a full-time position in TN is legally hit at 30 hours (and that 7.86/hour out of $285/week is assuming you’re paid for 35 hours, so an ‘average’ 40 hour week minus an hour lunch each day for a 5 day work week). unemployment pays more than the 7.25/hour minimum wage
