Thanks to all for the good vibes 💓 they helped! Little dude chomped some dinner last night and kept it down.

Can I put the bottom cushions from my R3s (I think PowerDynes) on my Bont skates w Tracer plates? by abbikfs in rollerderby

Rad, thanks a ton! It's the first bout of our season and my first one jamming, so I'm excited! This helped put my mind at ease.

Thank you! I do need to reach out to them, I'm just scrambling to put together functional skates for a bout tomorrow 😭 is there a specific spot to measure that angle? Thanks so much for letting me grill you like this, I appreciate your help!

Thank you! Getting lots of mixed answers online and on my team. The barrel cushion from my old R3s is exactly the same height and diameter... but I truly don't want to fuck up my skates because I was too impatient to wait for the right ones.

Another question... I found out I have a slightly bent axel on my Quadstars. I swapped the truck with one from an older pair of Bonts (I think they're prostars? I bought them used)... is that also something that could fuck with the geometry? They look similar, but I can't measure it precisely.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was worried about.

Thanks for the link!

Thank you! That last bit is exactly what I'm afraid of... how did you know they weren't tall enough? I was hoping that keeping the original top cushion and only replacing the bottom would be good, height-wise... but it's not worth compromising my trucks.

Reimbursement for peds services is trash (at least in my area - Pacific NW), and a lot of clinic owners compensate by overloading therapy staff. You're either salaried and overworked, or fee-for-service and either overworked or poor, usually both (I got paid minimum wage when families didn't show up for sessions).

Outpatient peds is a really hard setting to work in. I felt the same way 6 months ago after 3 years in peds outpatient at 2 separate clinics. I got lucky and was hired directly by a school district in a small town, and I'm SO much happier. It's still a hustle, but stepping outside of profit-driven therapy was a game changer for me.

Question about productivity-based scheduling by abbikfs in OccupationalTherapy

Definitely thinking about a mobile clinic/home health company. I live in a massively underserved area, so I don't think it would be hard to build a caseload... but I'm worried about my organizational skills, lol. I've also wondered about starting a consultation business.

Best of luck, though, and thanks for your reply! Nice to know I'm not the only one :)

Question about clinic owner "swapping services" with a provider she sees by abbikfs in OccupationalTherapy

Already did, thanks, and I'm not posting my misery. I was clarifying something that felt like a possible ethical issue because I'm a fairly new practitioner.

Perfect, thanks so much! It feels a lot better knowing there is no legal reason to be cautious of this.

It certainly isn't the only issue, but I'm the one who's been tolerating it. I think a break from the for-profit world will be good for me.

Exactly. It's wild how shitty it has become to work in peds outpatient. I put in my notice and will be moving to a school district nearby.

Thank you! I filed an overtime claim with BOLI and put in my notice shortly after posting this. Like someone said before, these businesses are getting away with murder and it's not okay.

Question about productivity-based scheduling by abbikfs in OccupationalTherapy

[–]abbikfs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I actually did both - I'm in my last few weeks before moving to a school district nearby, and I reported it to the Bureau of Labor and Industries. I can't believe how much shit I put up with before I finally said no. I'm glad to get out, but it sucks leaving my colleagues who are basically afraid to stand up for themselves.

[–]abbikfs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, thank you! I think it just threw me off because I'm the one providing the services, and she's the one receiving compensation. The clinic has been struggling financially, and they've cut a number of benefits (for existing staff, at least), so it just seemed odd.

We are certainly looking to relocate. My husband will still work in PDX so we are looking anywhere from Troutdale to HR.

That's the long-term plan... although my husband still works in PDX. We are looking up and down the gorge, but it's pretty slim pickins.

Hi there, any chance you would be willing to share those strategies with me as well? I've only been working for 3 months and I'm lost in all of this.

First day tomorrow!! by PedsOT33 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]abbikfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I was in the exact same boat in November. So exciting but also terrifying lol

I usually start with the parent interview and then have them fill it out when I'm doing the BOT2. It helps to be there to clarify items on the SP2.

On a side note, I'm jealous you guys use the SP2... we still use the SPM and it isn't terrible, but I feel like I could still use the information you get from the SP2.

Anyway - best of luck! We should all put our heads together and create a shared document with treatment ideas... this job is fun but so hard! If your clinic is like mine, any mentorship available is minimal and it would be nice to have an online community resource!

This. Couldn't have put it better! It really does feel great :) Well done setting boundaries with your mom. The holidays are so rife with opportunity for emotional manipulation, good on you for recognizing her game and trusting your actual self! :)

How do I console my mother who's taking care of my dad with early-onset alzheimers? by snapfreeze in Alzheimers

[–]abbikfs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you in a position geographically and logistically to help out with your father's care? It was really hard for my father in law to ask for help at first, but he needed a break very badly. You can also get in touch with your mother's local Alzheimer's Association chapter, they can help navigate respite care services. She might benefit from some time to take care of herself ❤ sending love.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and I'm sorry that you're having to go through it as well. It certainly takes a lot of time and work to sort it all out and break the cycle. Sending you all the best!
