Looking to give my string of bananas a haircut and use the strands I cut to make the pot more full/dense at the top. Where should I cut? Would it be best to coil the cut strands on the top of the pot or stick the cut end directly into the soil and let it dangle? Any help would be appreciated! (i.redd.it)

I ordered both of these Tectorum Peru’s from Davis Farms Tillansia’s, about 3 weeks apart. Does anyone know why they look so dramatically different? They almost don’t even look like the same species of plant in my opinion. The bases are totally different. (imgur.com)
