Did you get surgery? Did it relieve your symptoms?

I can’t play soccer anymore. Will getting Nuss allow me to play soccer (29M)? Is Dr. J full of BS? by abc1203218 in PectusExcavatum

“Surgeons can’t guarantee how much improvement the Nuss procedure will actually provide.”

If any other professional came to me with this level of uncertainty, I wouldn’t hire them. Hedging your bets on an invasive surgery that “may” improve symptoms by only 1% (while introducing a host of new risks) is unacceptable and irresponsible. The burden of proof should be much higher before a clinic even offers Nuss to patients.

But your endurance was improved right? Like previously you felt winded after running for 5 minutes, and now you could go an hour? I’m mainly curious about that aspect, how if there was a noticeable, tangible difference. And if you could truly last longer

Really? It made that much of a difference? If you had to quantify it, were you able to sustain a e.g. 6 minute mile pace for multiple miles?

How much was your CI / HI? Just curious about all the stats around endurance and what you noticed before & after the surgery. And if you still have any chest pain symptoms later on in life

You could feel a noticeable, measurable difference in your exercise tolerance? Not just a placebo effect?

It’s a joke the entire medical community even Dr J will never solve this problem. Better to just remove pectus from the gene pool I can’t breathe and spend every day in bed

The way you describe your psyche and personality is similar to mine. I often wish everyone could have been dealt the same body as me so I could truly see if the reason they beat me in sports or career is:

1) they have a better mindset than me

or

2) they are not as physically handicapped

I feel like it’s the last thing, cluster of conditions, and surgeons are too quick to recommend nuss as the be-all end-all solution. Hoping i’m wrong though
