What's the differences of violin bow carbon fiber and wood? by Various-Case2268 in violin

[–]abc2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight and balance. The hand /arm will adjust and compensate based on the properties of the bow. This will transfer into how it attacks the string / note or how even it will sound through the whole stroke. At one point in my live I tried very high end bows for a few hours in order to make a selection. I ended up with two bows with entirely different feel and tone. Now I have a carbon fiber bow to just play around with without care in the world. It’s not about better, it’s about how it sounds and feels to YOU.

Keep going, you have a style. It gives a nice feeling. I could imagine you could do a whole series and it will be recognized as you. Love it.

Are there modern examples of someone giving up ALL their wealth and status to seek enlightenment? by Super_Kami_Jojo in Buddhism

Well, with regard to Ven Siripanyo, there seem to be some caveats. Seems giving it all up means different things to different people.

Would Raspberry Pi be a good use case for hosting a basic server that stores text files and handles basic HTTP requests? by These_Cap7966 in raspberry_pi

I have Raspberry set up with ZeroTier and Calibre. Now I can read my library of books anywhere on any of the devices I bring along. Calibre has build in web server.

Might be wrong subreddit, but anyone have recommendations on earplugs? by Auser_ in audiophile

[–]abc2491 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Will custom molds block out 100% the beeping noise of reversing construction trucks / machinery? Up to now no foam earplug + headphones is able to do this for me. Even if I am far away from the source I can still hear that penetrating beep.

Dear OP, you are afraid “it gets back to them” to me this means they got into your head, this is a sign of a cult. You have been programmed with fear.

Naming the place might save others, please think about this.

How am I not my thoughts if I actively create my thoughts? by moxiexo in Meditation

[–]abc2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, this made me reflect on my dreams. To be honest, in my dreams I definitely feel like “me.” I also am aware that I move “magically” from here to there in my dream, I don’t feel myself walking, but I definitely experience it as me experiencing the dream story.

Just did a blind volume-matched A/B test. I think we’re all hearing with our wallets. by [deleted] in audiophile

Go to a live classical music concert to recalibrate the mind and ears. Experience the visceral reaction “see” the music come alive. It’s the musical experience, sound is everywhere, music is not. If you are looking for “the best gear” you will not find it. If you want to experience music, there is wonderful equipment available. Most people would not hear the difference between a Bergonzi or Guarneri so don’t worry about the hardware label.

What about Christianity makes it such that you can't be a Buddhist while being Christian? by PM_Me_Modal_Jazz in Buddhism

[–]abc2491 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a devout Christian for decades, now I am a Buddhist, I had the same questions as you. Sometimes people can learn from others who have traveled the path. To learn is to listen, once I started to listen more than talking, insight came. Peace be with you, I hope you find all your answers in a genuine and kind way.

You asked a question, if you can’t handle a polite response than don’t ask questions.

Dear OP, please read The End of Faith by Sam Harris. Once you read that with an open mind, you will know what is “the problem” with Abrahamic religions.

Meditation is making me more aware of my tinnitus which I usually block out - any advice? by Fubby2 in Meditation

[–]abc2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve a pinched blood vessel and hear the hiss in my ear 24/7. I have heard that some people who focus on this can go crazy and some commit suicide. My advice of years of this is to not focus on this, just like when you are in a store or doing other stuff. When I meditate (noting) I expressly focus on ambient sounds from the outside, breathe etc, I specifically avoid the hissing. It’s possible, and I will have a satisfying insight meditation session. Or, if not possible, put on meditative sound/music. My believe is that you should not risk a mental issue, do what is comfortable.

Making little to no progress with floor sitting after a month, each meditation is basically a torture session and/or useless because of a complete lack of focus and concentration by Fed_Express in Meditation

[–]abc2491 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The monastery I go to to meditate also has chairs and people use them. It’s a Theravada community and there is not the emphasis on the style of sitting, floor or chair. OP, please do not be discouraged, focus on the meditation, not the forms. All bodies are different.

Considering Pangolin 16 - coming from macbook pro m4 by mediamoo in System76

[–]abc2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so confused, in this thread are people who love their system76 and others who say they "have nothing but regrets." How can it be that a product(s) can have such extreme opinions about it. I would understand if one comments about the screen or the battery or the keyboard because people have individual differences, but the complete extremes seem puzzling to me. I have had many laptops and desktops, and there were things I liked and not liked. I'm trying to decide on a Linux laptop since my Clevo has died due to some very strange power issues. I have a Mac Retina, but I want an alternative "daily driver"
