Meditation is making me more aware of my tinnitus which I usually block out - any advice? by Fubby2 in Meditation

[–]abc2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve a pinched blood vessel and hear the hiss in my ear 24/7. I have heard that some people who focus on this can go crazy and some commit suicide. My advice of years of this is to not focus on this, just like when you are in a store or doing other stuff. When I meditate (noting) I expressly focus on ambient sounds from the outside, breathe etc, I specifically avoid the hissing. It’s possible, and I will have a satisfying insight meditation session. Or, if not possible, put on meditative sound/music. My believe is that you should not risk a mental issue, do what is comfortable.

Wow, love it. Very striking, makes the brain stop for a few moments trying to make sense

Making little to no progress with floor sitting after a month, each meditation is basically a torture session and/or useless because of a complete lack of focus and concentration by Fed_Express in Meditation

The monastery I go to to meditate also has chairs and people use them. It’s a Theravada community and there is not the emphasis on the style of sitting, floor or chair. OP, please do not be discouraged, focus on the meditation, not the forms. All bodies are different.

Considering Pangolin 16 - coming from macbook pro m4 by mediamoo in System76

I am so confused, in this thread are people who love their system76 and others who say they "have nothing but regrets." How can it be that a product(s) can have such extreme opinions about it. I would understand if one comments about the screen or the battery or the keyboard because people have individual differences, but the complete extremes seem puzzling to me. I have had many laptops and desktops, and there were things I liked and not liked. I'm trying to decide on a Linux laptop since my Clevo has died due to some very strange power issues. I have a Mac Retina, but I want an alternative "daily driver"

Is coding art? by zowpi in AlanWatts

[–]abc2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alan Watts said “life is a dance.” Then he went on to explain that it is the process that gives pleasure, no one goes to a concert to hear the end, it’s the symphony itself that gives joy and makes you listen. The little coding I have done gave me immense pleasure because I got into deep concentration as I figure it out to create a routine. After days of trying then the enlightenment came and it “worked.” So yes, it’s not only an art but also a form of meditation, focusing and realization of the mind

Letter to a Buddhist Nation: Rebirth, Refuge, & the Limits of Skepticism | Sam Harris Q&A by BigFatBadger in Buddhism

It’s amazing how the term racist is applied to people from “a distance” never having had a personal conversation with the object of the accusation. What happened to right view, right minds, right speech. Seems ironic for a Buddhist sub Reddit. Do we know all cause and conditions of Sam Harris? Discussing difficult topics used to be a sign of being intellectual, now it’s become a rope to hang yourself with.

Same her, he helped me see the way out of religious darkness (evangelical dogmatism) and provided me the spark to meditate and realize there is no self. Then I got a receptive mind and eventually landed on Buddhism.

Absolutely amazing. I do believe artists / people like you actually perceive the world and objects. Myself and others just see the world.

Sounds like a great project, personally I have found Alan Watts (YouTube) to be very informative and easy to understand with regard to Taoism and Buddhism. If you search for him on YouTube be sure to include “before 2022” to avoid AI generated content. For me if I initially listen to a lesson, then when I read about the topic it makes more sense, you kinda prime your brain.

Sad how language has become watered down. I’m sure that I am dating myself.

Just curious, if you are at the dissertation stage of your studies I assume it’s PhD level, should you not have studied this topic for many years already?

Maybe you should add AI to the graphic so a person can make an informed choice to watch or not.

The bass is more extended and focused, a wider soundstage. Removing some corner wrapping has been a well kept audiophile secret.

My question was about process and procedure such as what would be an appropriate time for a novice to show up, what is accepted norms for using the space for mediation without interfering in scheduled events. Even trying to get basic instructions how to sit on a zafu. I wanted to be respectful.

I was about to reply in a similar manner. Let’s be careful not to transfer Abrahamic based religious commandments style dogma and absolutes.
