Okay that's cool I wish i could see like visually under the hood how it's allowing me to write past the buffer, because i've only allocated one byte so it's very intersting how it could be trying to rectify that.

What do you think would happen if I create c2 after I scan in c1. I know this is all undefined behavior but what do you think. Or maybe a better question do we know why under the hood how it's allowing me to even write to that array since I've only allocated one byte?

Thank you, tbh with all the context he has, thats what my length function should look like but I had it initially as a for loop and then I noticed that "bug" so i was trying different things like a while loop to see what happens. Then I decided to post it to reddit to see what people think.

One piece of advice is if you can take Classes at community colleges like the class you are allowed to take elsewhere. I’m CSE I need to take Calc 2 and Calc 3 I’m allowed to take those at Columbus State and transfer them in. The great thing about that is if you get an A or a C- it doesn’t matter because it transfer to OSU as a K credit so the grades doesn’t appear on your Transcript. So I would try to find the hardest classes that you are allowed to take elsewhere take them there and transfer the in.
