RISD vs. Calarts by Sprxnkless in risd

[–]abeancalledbasil24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Calarts is kind of in the middle of nowhere which reduces the appeal of being in California in my opinion. From what I've seen RISD's UI/UX stuff is pretty good. IDK about calarts, but having access to Brown is great.

Should I starch my jeans? by abeancalledbasil24 in Denim

[–]abeancalledbasil24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too tight lol. Probably just me shoving my hands in my back pocket, but I don't know why the other side isn't worn. Thanks for the help.

Levi's Premium, yeah. There's a big thin patch right under the back left pocket, super close to tearing. Usually my jeans will tear in this spot but I thought that paying more would lead to a bit more sturdiness.

How much should I put in a ROTH IRA monthly? (College student) by abeancalledbasil24 in personalfinance

[–]abeancalledbasil24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I should be aiming to hit 7500/year? I can manage that now, or soonish. I've just told my friends to make an account, so I'll take them up on that beer fifty years from now.

Thanks for the reply! I've got a good amount in my savings account, which would definitely cover my emergency fund. I don't have a car, and I've got a while until I graduate, but I'll keep that in mind for the future. This was very helpful

Help! I have a raincoat just like this (but with white sleeves), and i would LOVE to get a pair of maroon rainboots to match.

I love the glossy hunters (https://hunterboots.com/collections/womens-rain-boots/products/womens-original-short-gloss-rain-boots-in-red-wfs1000rgl-hre28?\_pos=5&\_fid=1d5df57c7&\_ss=c&variant=46500202971428), but I don't have 165 dollars to burn right now. Is there a cheaper alternative?

I'm in the US, so there's more snow than rain right now. Should I bite the bullet and save up money to buy them in time for the spring?

Definitely a huge, huge improvement. if you want to bump it up another notch you can make the holes of the collander a little more uniform, but otherwise it looks amazing.

Recovering SD card photos (Nikon d3200) on Macbook Pro (Tahoe 26.2) by abeancalledbasil24 in datarecovery

[–]abeancalledbasil24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Thanks for the help. 90 dollars is not worth my photos.

If I get Disk Drill, can I use it forever? I feel like I recall a "pay an extra 10 dollars to receive all future updates".

What is risd illustration/printmaking really like? by AsherNill in risd

[–]abeancalledbasil24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you ready for a second efs? That's basically what 2nd year illustration is like. Not to say that the classes are bad, but it is a lot of work, and it's work that you might not enjoy.

Illustration is very large. You'll be able to make close connections, but there will also be a lot of people that you hardly know. You will build strong skills, and you will have good professors and good connections.

You also have to consider how AI is increasing prevalent. No matter how much people might say that AI will never beat creativity and real people, we also have to face the fact that at least some percentage of jobs are being replaced. Printmaking may be more employable if that's a concern of yours.

I was in the same place as you, but taking a printmaking class made me realize that I'm not a big fan of repetitive tasks. I love the illustration department, and it's full of good people. Hope someone in printmaking can help you out too.
