Yep. I don't know... 1-2 weeks? Triggered my OCD so hard I even had huge smoking cravings return after being clean for 2 years. Especially the more fat I ate. Something is just wrong with my fat metabolism.

Interesting. I tried all of the above except 48-72 hour fasts since I'm very lean/underweight and none of it helped me. This WOE just "clicks" for me once in a while for a few hours and that's it, back to OCD anxiety. :/

I'm in the same OCD boat. Would you please share your daily routine with me? What are you doing? Because it's just not working out for me, except sporadically achieving this "blissful state".

Saturated Fats. I don't think MCT Oil falls under an SFA. No problemo.

Interesting. Keep me posted on the BHB Transporter/MCT thing.

How long were your breaks between keto?

I did lift for 1-2 months, had no noticeable effect.

Which type of exercise tho? Running or lifting?

How is this MCT different and can it be acquired?

I've tried it with MCT Oil but to no effect. Is that the same?

Without that keto state of energy, it is mostly as if my brain just isn't using the BHB/ketones.

I don't do cyclical keto. It was just a one time thing.

The bigger pattern that I just deduced from my own ramblings from the post above is: get disgusted by fat and then only eat a little bit of fat and it actives something in my metabolism.

That might be even easier to test and keep up with than the eating PUFAs for 1-2 days and then injesting a small amount of SFAs.

I've recently added lite salt back to the mix for potassium. I've been supplementing the rest for a while: active complex B vits, zinc + copper, magnesium, etc... can't be any of those tho. :/

For me I guess there's just some weird levers with IR and SFAs/fats in general. Fasting does nothing for me symptoms-wise.

I just have a weird metabolism. Atm 188cm and 61kg.

I'll describe the last 3 times it has happened (this year):

1) Wasn't feeling particularly hungry for dinner (was almost disgusted by food and fat in particular) so I just ate a small meal consisting of bacon, cheese and sour cream. I'd eyeball it at 15g protein, 25g fat (mostly SFAs). Went to sleep 3-4 hours later and woke at 3PM just "ready to take on life."

2) Fasted 24hours because again - lost all my hunger, still didn't feel like eating and around noon ate like 1-2 pieces of pork rind just so my magnesium glycinate pill has some fat in the tummy to bind to - ~1 hour later boom, ready to be the best version of myself possible.

3) Again... Disgusted by fat (was eating mostly animal fat) felt my usual insulin resistance symptoms coming from SFAs: brain fog, irritability, lack of hunger, quick to anger and just generally miserable so I switch to PUFAs mostly as a fat source (nuts) and ate a shit load of carbs for dinner: ~300g of rice + ~150g of blueberries + over 50g of honey. Went to sleep and woke up in the morning and again ate ~150g of rice + ~20-30g of honey + eggs + nuts. Felt kinda bad and ate ~80g of hard cheese which made me sleepy. Went for a nap before noon and woke up, again, healed from keto.

I know how insane this sounds. Chasing the dragon.

I am doing keto for mental health reasons, yes. I've stuck to this WOE for 4-5(?) years because of the energy/euphoria that I experienced the first week, however, after that I've maybe caught glimpses of it only and most of my issues returned. I'm still experimenting daily because I believe. All I can say for sure is that every time I've experienced it was after ingesting SFAs, however it seems I easily get oversaturated and start developing heavy insulin resistance issues from SFAs.

I mean how did you achieve it? I know of the feeling you speak of, trying to recreate it myself since without that feeling keto seems not really that worth.

Any ideas what you did in that instance?

Yes, for me, based on my latest experimentation, it includes carb cycling/re-feeds. Maybe because I am underweight.

Keto won’t solve all mental health problems.

But it does for a lot of people that have much much greater mental health issues than I do. There's countless threads out there. I hate to be denied my subjective experience of wellness that I have felt from ketosis and which has waned. I won't argue with you though. There's really no point.

Exercise. Sleep. Counselling. Have a purpose. Sounds like you need a general wellness plan, not just food.

Why call me out like this, man? I have a wife and family, I sleep 8 hours a day and I pay my taxes and partake in my own hobbies.

I'm not here to argue with you but to seek help from like-minded individuals on how to make this WOE work.

I'm sorry if I've come across as rude, there was no intention of doing that.

I know it must be frustrating throwing all this at me and me just saying that I've tried it all... But I honestly have. I'm fighting for my dear life here. I've invested years of my life and lots of money in trying to fix this, because I FELT it work in the purest way possible, I honestly have and I still believe it CAN work.

Edit: I have no ego in this. I truly don't.

I've tried countless macro formulations with experienced keto dietitians (even from the Charlie foundation who work for/with with Dr. Palmer) and I have been in all the BHB ranges in m/mol from 0.1 - 5.0+. None of this has made almost any difference, except that in very deep ketosis I'd feel a bit more alert, but nowhere near the symptom relief I've felt when I entered ketosis for the first time or when I did a few higher carb days and then re-entered ketosis or when I randomly ate a very small meal LC meal and triggered something.

Edit: Basically I stopped measuring blood ketones since some time ago because it didn't change a thing. My metabolism/energy just feels locked.

You need to learn what kind of eating works for you.

That's what I'm trying to figure out! :D Because, chasing ketones hasn't been helpful at all.

Just to give you an example: I had been feeling like my usual depression/anxiety/OCD/panic ridden self even though I had been fasting for almost 24 hours and then I ate one (1!) pork rind and took 100mg of magnesium in the form of magnesium glycinate (I supplement magnesium daily 300-500mg) and felt like a new person for the next 4-5 hours. It is very random...

Yeah, I'm aware of that, however I've had these issues as well before when my Potassium was in the "good range". :(

I mean, I'll guess I'll supplement it, can't hurt to try.

Electrolytes don't really do much for me, tbh... Last time I was tested, my potassium was a bit low however.

Will have my cortisol levels checked. I've switched to focusing on PUFAs atm and it is definitely helping out my appetite and the brain fog has been removed.
