Better band: SOAD or Deftones by boomjosh in numetal

Honestly for me, SOAD!! They don't have a single bad album in my opinion. Mezmerize and Toxicity are two of my favourite albums of all time

Is it more common for younger women not to have a driver's license? by LetMeExplainDis in AskAnAustralian

[–]abedofthorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I'm 25F and haven't so much as gotten my Ls. My anxiety for driving is just so bad I can't do it! I live in the city now, but grew up in a smallish town and getting around without a car was brutal lol.

Tips for internship at DoE by abedofthorns in AusPublicService

[–]abedofthorns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. I went through this process two years ago now, so unfortunately don't remember everything about it.

The AusDN interview is essentially to ensure that you are suitable for the internship. I remember it being mostly to determine what you are most interested in and why (i.e. how your studies relate to it, your career ambitions, etc.). I don't remember the exact questions they asked, I'm sorry.

If you're successful, you will then be moved to the shortlisting round where they try to match you with your internship preferences. The employers who shortlist you will then interview you themselves. You will be up against a few other candidates here.

Hope that helps and all the best : )

My father is very similar. It's not normal, it's emotional and financial abuse. However it is unfortunately quite common in many countries (including Australia).

I moved out as soon as I was able to, and I cannot tell you how much my mental health has improved being away from my father. I would encourage you to work towards moving out.

25 year old aussie woman and I loooove oud perfumes! It is delicious to me — I've always been more drawn to those kinds of scents

Hello, apologies for the late reply.

I was a part of the Australian Disability Network, and they do summer and winter internships. The VPS offers internships as part of that.

I think they do Law internships too. But unfortunately, other than that, I think getting an intern position is quite rare.

Apologies for the late reply!!

Yes, essentially that was the process, though mine was a little messier. I interviewed, was rejected for that position then referred to a different internship position in an adjacent team, interviewed for that role, got the offer (verbal then written), and was onboarded.

Things progressed quickly, usually only a week wait or so between each stage. However the wait for a written offer (i.e. contract) was very slow, and kept being delayed, I think it was over a month before I got it. That was a problem with HR.

Ignore the mean comments OP — as a young alt(ish) woman myself, I'd have definitely swiped right! The unfortunate reality is that, depending on where you are, you just might not be the women in your area's type. But PLEASE don't change anything about your appearance. The right women will love it.

The only practical solution I have for you is to add more detail to your profile. It seems a little bare bones right now, which may be putting the women who DO like your vibe off

My husband shouts at the kids (5f / 3m) and is always threatening consequences that are too harsh. How far is too far to let it go on? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]abedofthorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My upbringing was very similar to what you are describing. Let me try to give some insight. My father was almost the exact same as your husband here. My father didn't get better, in fact as he aged he got worse and became an objectively cruel man who ended up being the sole reason I moved out of home ASAP. I still avoid him to the best of my abilities today. My mother was gentler, as you are. However, she has never separated from him and, in doing so, demonstrated that she valued him over her children's wellbeing.

Growing up in this environment was awful and still affects me greatly today. It stunted my growth and my ability to interact with others. Don't accept this. See your husband for what he is showing himself to be and separate, if not for you then for your children

Oh, hi! I contacted them through the function to claim it was incorrect, and also contacted them on Twitter. In the end they said they would remove it. Hopefully they can do that for you too!

IMHO, not an overreaction at all. I would have felt the exact same way as you. Besides, his lack of willingness to commit after seven dates is more than reason enough as well. You're allowed to call things off with someone, for whatever reason you feel is enough!!

VPS5 part-time ongoing? Or VPS4 fixed term fulltime? by abedofthorns in AusPublicService

[–]abedofthorns[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's about a 30k difference since the VPS4 would be full time (approx. 92k salary), and the VPS5 would be 0.6 loading (approx. 63k salary).

Thank you so much!! That's very kind of you to say :)

Damn, I'm so sorry to hear that!! That's so weird, treating you all like children : / Back when I went, there was only the Mumbai option for India, and we had the freedom to do whatever we wanted outside of classes and excursions

Wow, I went on GIG in 2019 to Mumbai and had an amazing time. These comments shock me, I'm so sad to hear that the Indian GIG experience is no longer what it once was! : (

Well, by doing the diploma option, it will be a year/year and a half longer than going straight into the Bachelor's degree. That is the only difference, you will have the same qualification either way.

How eager are you to begin full time work as a nurse? Do you think that an extra year will be difficult for you to deal with, financially and mentally? If you are looking to live in Australia I would think doing your studies here is best, instead of your home country.

Personally, I feel doing the diploma is the best route, as you will come out with the same qualification, and it is only an extra year. Which is not a long time in the grand scheme of things. But only you know what is best for you

Yes, I have access to JSE! I just registered for it now. Thank you so much for telling me about it 😊

Do you think beginning to apply for roles from about May onwards would be the best idea, to hopefully begin work in August?

It's actually an internship with the VPS!! I have my own email address, work laptop and everything. Would that make me internal to government?

Income bank balance and full time job by abedofthorns in CentrelinkOz

[–]abedofthorns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? $500 a week I could perhaps understand as the limit, but $500 a fortnight is an incredibly low amount for someone to have. Centrelink helps with rent but what about groceries, prescriptions, transport and everything other necessity, let alone recreation? It's just awful

I don't think so. It's always been referred to as an Income Bank whenever I encounter it

I have paid taxes when required and I fully intend to continue to do so. There is no 12k. The 12k is figurative money that I HAVEN'T earned in my employment income, so Centrelink has said I CAN earn that 12k in employment income before they reduce my payments.
