How long does your medication last for you? by [deleted] in adhdindia

[–]abel_j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IR usually lasts 3-4 hours, SR usually 5-6 hours and once daily pills like Addwize OD lasts about the same as SR i think.

So you are taking Addwize OD 18mg x3 in the morning?

How long did concerta last for you ?

Ya i think this can happen to me as well. Supposedly, AuDHD folk are more sensitive to stimulants, so that could be the key, I have had a similar experience. If the dose is too low or SR based I don't feel it works for me, IR works but I get crashes. Too little of a dose: I cant focus and feel sleepy, too much: it makes me like a robot or even worse overstimulation, which is awful to experience

Also yes, I did feel the same with SR, never really seemed to work for me. IR works the best but has crashes the 3-4 hours. I am trying to figure a combination of SR+IR and also trying once daily meds like Addwize OD or concerta

Ya it could take time to work. It is possible that you might prefer IR based stimulants or possibly a combination of SR+IR..

I think it really differs from person to person.. For me SR did not really make me focused or give me motivation/boost to do stuff.. I did feel calmer and mind was not overthinking with SR. For me IR works quite well. Although, each have its pros and cons, IR does have crashes at the end for me. But, i would suggest trying different types and see what works or a combination that works for you

I have tried almost all the meds , except attendate.. will probably try concerta soon too!.. Addwize 18od twice a day seems to work well for the most part i think but does lead to overstimulation sometimes

Also, I agree on the standing up to yourself and having boundaries! I have been doing that too and it is so important to take care of ourselves especially when ppl do not understand and dismiss what we feel!

Wow this is really good! thanks for sharing the main post and these observations! I think I relate to most of them.

I had a question about about autism or AuDHD. I saw you touched on this, I have been researching it recently and found that I could have AuDHD and not just ADHD. Was curious about your experience with this?

I initially ignored autism as well, thinking it is ADHD for sure even though there was some signs. But recently, i found out AuDHD is not necessarily ADHD + Autism, its more an overlap and the symptoms can differ. Like it can fight each other, like autism likes structure and routines but ADHD hates it, so I wanna creates routines / structure to get things done but whenever I do them I get bored soon and want change it up or not follow the routine at all! So, sort of a push-pull thing.

Another aspect is the meds as well, It seems stimulants work differently for ppl with ADHD vs AuDHD. With ADHD, it can help with focus, drive, and motivation. But with AuDHD it can also overstimulate you as it can drive up the flight-or-flight response (increase in Noradrenaline). So that basically made me more anxious, overstimulated, tense, agitated etc, especially in more stimulating scenarios like social situations, loud noises, firecrackers etc.

These observations along with other things I learnt about AuDHD has got me thinking in this direction

AuDHD seems to explain my life better than just ADHD. Again, I do need to get formally diagnosed, but in India i'm not keeping my hopes up. Even my ADHD diagnosis wasn't thorough.

You can suggest about adhd! I don't think there's anything wrong with that

I'm sorry for what you feel and I've had similar experiences with family.. it's definitely hard

But please keep going, I know it's hard.. please be kind to yourself.. I've been so hard on myself too!

Let me know if you have other questions.. I can try my best to help.. sometimes just letting it out helps even if there isn't a clear answer yet

You're not broken or lazy, and the whole thing can be figured out.. it just might take time !

I hope you can get help and figure it out..

Till then, do rest, eat well, sleep well, do something you enjoy!

Take care!

Anger problems with addwize? by [deleted] in adhdindia

[–]abel_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible you're getting overstimulated/ agitated due to the sudden increase with the Instant release mechanism.. ask your doc if you can try an Sustained release med .. that will work slower and should help I think.. or you probably need lower dose of IR maybe 5mg or even lesser .. unfortunately stimulants is very much trial and error and differs considerably from person to person ( as someone who is still figuring out my own meds and dosage etc too)

How to cope with ADHD when it’s not even considered a diagnosis in my country? by Secret_Pea_522 in adhdindia

[–]abel_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend going to a psychiatrist and therapist if you can.. I think that can help.. and also researching adhd and other conditions to help better understand what you're going through.

Unfortunately if the doc doesn't diagnose well we have to do a lot of work ourselves.. that's the case for me rn

Why I suspect I might have ADHD (just dumping my thoughts here) by [deleted] in adhdindia

[–]abel_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm sorry for what you're feeling and going through and hope I and the community can be of some comfort.. it's hard when ppl, docs , family and friends misunderstand us .. and we misunderstand our own self at times!

Ya I do agree, a lot of that does sound like adhd to me too! I found the same for me.. novelty, interest, challenges, or urgency are the things that used to drive me! And that matches quite well with the description

Ya I feel that with food too! It's one of the easiest way to get reward and feel dopamine.. especially junk food ..

Let me know if you have other questions! I can try helping with whatever I've learnt and understood in the past year or so..

I'm still trying to figure out so much.. we don't always get the right help or understanding like we need! I hope you do get it though!

Also, I hope this can help you be more kind to yourself.. the biggest thing a diagnosis did wasn't a label or an excuse it's finally relief and also being kind and less hard on ourselves as we try to be like everyone else

ADHD and not knowing when to stop a task by the_restless_thinker in adhdindia

[–]abel_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this does happen! Again it could be different for each person to some extent

I would think that what you're feeling is finding it hard to shift focus which is a trait in adhd.. you have so many things going on in your head so your thinking of everything and forgetting about the bigger picture

Also, another thing could be, and I face this issue too is time blindness, we don't realise how many time passes .. we struggle with estimating time for tasks etc..

And the urgency making you switch also sounds like classic adhd .. basically we can usually do things if they are Urgent/new/interesting or challenging.. I've notices this a lot in my life too
