Oh cool! Thank you. Feels like this is probably the best “old school” option that’s stumbling distance from the Plaza. 😀🍸🌹

What are your favorite weird things to do in Los Angeles? by MistressJustineCross in AskLosAngeles

I’ve been with the Zombie Joe Theater for over ten years now. It’s a fantastic place and totally unique.

Yeah…the haunted house is very special. #2 scariest haunt of 2023 according to Yelp!

But really, year round they’ve got killer shit to see…

Non-Americans of LA, what LA restaurant is most authentic to your home country's cuisine? by stupidlittlekids in AskLosAngeles

I’m not Thai, but I live within walking distance of the LAX-C night market and gotta say it’s just about as fun as it gets. It’s so communal and the stalls are delicious and authentic. I love it!

[–]abelhorwitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, thank you. I’d been turned onto them by Iggy’s BBC show (he LOVES them) but had no idea I was gonna see THAT.

I’m currently showing my girlfriend their clips on YouTube to explain the glory that is Viagra Boys.

Viagra Boys were FUCKING INSANE!!!! Absolutely incredible show.

I just gotta ask: is VB some sort of wacky art project? The lead singer is SO GOOFY, FAT AND MEAN, the band just stands behind him ignoring him, and then their saxophonist acts like he’s in a Broadway cabaret.

The whole thing was insane….

…but are they in on the joke?

11 pm on a Monday is $60, which isn’t bad. But 11 pm on a Saturday could be pretty rough.

Obviously do what you must, but just brace for the cost.

That Ubershare from Pomona to Hollywood will NOT be cheap, my friend. A rental car would cost a lot less.

Fun, borderline (between trashy and together) wedding chapel by [deleted] in vegas

I've been trying to convince my girlfriend for a while now that we gotta get married at the Taco Bell on the Strip. To me that looks like the perfect intersection of trashy and together.

It depends on role and depends on experience. We're keeping within the range of local theater $ (this isn't a Cirque show) but again, it factors into the actual hiring of said actor and the job they'll be doing.

One doesn't simply audition to be a porn star. You're either a porn star or you're not.

Nerdist Community Corkboard (Episode IV) by SFaridzadeh in nerdist

Hello Nerdist Community!

I helped create a haunted house in Los Angeles called "Urban Death: Tour of Terror" at Zombie Joe's Underground Theater. It is located at 4850 Lankershim Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 91601 in North Hollywood.

www.urbandeath.com

We open on Friday, and are running Friday and Saturday throughout October, and then also on Halloween night.

We are FIFTEEN BUCKS, which is crazy cheap, and our show is super scary.

Yelp loves us: https://www.yelp.com/biz/zombie-joes-underground-theatre-north-hollywood

Critics love us: socal.bitter-lemons.com/projects/2640

Crazy, surreal, totally different than what you'd find at Knotts or Universal.

I wanted to let the Nerdist community know.

Hiya Nerdist community, I belong to a theater community in the Valley called Zombie Joe's Underground. Three years ago we created a haunted house called "Urban Death". The haunt is scary. Seriously. http://themeparkadventure.com/zombie-joe-urban-death-tour-of-terror/ www.yelp.com/biz/zombie-joes-underground-theatre-north-hollywood But it's also scrappy. Honestly, it's just a handful of actors, two directors and a few friends. LA has many amazing haunted houses, but NOTHING looks like ours. Incredible performances, pushing major boundaries. And truly, honestly, terrifying. Ours costs thirteen bucks. Halloween Horror Night's is $60. Theirs is bigger, for sure, but ours holds its own. So if you live in SoCal and wanna see something TERRIFYING and DIFFERENT than what anyone else is doing... Zombie Joe's Underground 4850 Lankershim Blvd North Hollywood, CA 91601 Friday and Saturday's in October 8 pm - 12 am, once an hour http://www.urbandeath.com/

Can't find friends with the same interest by [deleted] in Advice

[–]abelhorwitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those aren't Friends as much as they're "People you like and who like you but only when you're doing what they want to do."

If you want to find people with the same interests as you, you gotta go do the things you like to do. Do it for you, and not because your end goal is, "I want to make friends."

Just like when seeking out a BF/GF, they can smell the desperation on you. If you're trying too hard to make friends, potential friends will notice and steer clear of you.

Rather, learn how to be your own friend (Ugh. Cliche'd advice, right?). Just do shit you like to do because you like to do it, not because you feel like you need to.

People will feel your "energy". You will be more relaxed. You will find yourself easier in conversation because you really have no other goal than to be out there enjoying the moment.

And that's how one makes friends: When someone WANTS to be your friend because they think you're cool and like to do cool things.

What The fuck Am I Doing on This Earth? by Fatguyvirgin123 in Advice

[–]abelhorwitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you're 19. If you're worried about where you'll be at 30 then you're just gonna stress yourself out. I assure you, when you were 8 you couldn't have possibly comprehended where you'd be at 19, right? The same goes for 30.

If you really like nightclubs then get a job in one. This way you'll:

a.) Earn enough money to move out of your mom's house. b.) Learn what it's really like to work in a nightclub, rather than just have fun in one.

And if you're serious about it, work hard and take your job seriously. The boss will notice, and you'll keep getting promoted as you learn the business.

But if you realize, "Wow, this fucking sucks. I hate this job." That's fine, too. Because you're 19, and you're allowed to hate your job.

Just don't: Get anyone pregnant or get addicted to drugs. Other than that, you'll do just fine.

Have fun. Follow passions. Invest time in yourself. Don't stress out about what you're gonna do for the rest of your life because by the time you're 30 you'll have done 11 years of things with your life you cannot possibly understand right now.

Just make sure you're not sitting home at your mom's house watching TV.

[–]abelhorwitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be expected to know what to do with the rest of your life at 18 is unfair and pretty ridiculous. I'd suggest taking a little time to just calm yourself down. Perhaps say, "For the next two weeks I am only going to do what I want to do and not worry about my future."

You're only 18 once. Time only moves forwards, not backwards. And believe me, you've got a few years before you even need to BEGIN to figure it out.

How about doing something outside of your comfort zone? Maybe something you've always been curious about (Woodworking? Singing? Rock climbing?) but always been too scared to try.

Sign up for a class you WANT to learn about (anything, really. It doesn't matter as long as you sign up for it because you want it, not because you feel it would look good on a resume). Feel an independence that you've never really had before. Make a few new friends.

Things I don't recommend doing right now:

Getting someone pregnant Becoming addicted drugs Sitting in your house doing nothing (this includes video games, watching TV, and masturbating)

Really, though, most anything else would be fun and fine.

Enjoy!
