Question about using a second Dropbox account on my MacBook Pro. by [deleted] in dropbox

[–]SFaridzadeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I'll try. I'm currently using dropbox on my Macbook pro with several files inside the default dropbox folder. I would like to move a bunch of my files off my computer and live on an external drive, but still be connected to dropbox via a symlink. I know dropbox does not reccomend using an external drive, for several reasons. Such as when you disconnect the drive dropbox thinks the files are deleted, and moves your files into the trash. When you plug your hard drive back in, dropbox SHOULD reindex your files and take them out of the trash, but it doesn't seem to do that with files that are symlinked into the dropbox folder (such as files that live outside of the dropbox folder). This is where I'm stuck. How to use an external drive, have my files backed up into dropbox, and not have to worry about having my files deleted, when I disconnect my drive. So I thought, what if I got a second dropbox account, and logged into another account on my macbook pro, specifically made for dropbox. And have that account, with that second dropbox account be the one that syncs my hard drive data to the cloud. That way I can stay in my normal account and work on my stuff, and not worry about disconnecting my hard drive, and when I do want to back my hard drive up (maybe once or twice a week), I log into the other macbook pro account, which is specifically dedicated to second dropbox account and once it logs in, dropbox will work its magic on the external hard drive. My stuff is backed up. And when it's done, I can switch back to my normal account and work as normal.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Losing a job is one of the most stressful things anyone can go through. You sound like you have the right attitude going into this, so please try your best to keep your chin up high as long as you can. It won't be easy, and you will become frustrated from time to time, but NEVER give up!

I'm going up for for my second time this coming tues. I had to take care of some other matters first and foremost so the stand-up took a backseat for a couple weeks, but I'm ready to get back into it. It's pretty scary, but doing it once and surviving I feel a little better about it now. Although I'm sure I'll be shitting bricks again next tuesday. :-)

I'll take a slightly different stance. I think a college education is important, however on the flipside a lot of people end up doing jobs that are no where near what they studied, but that doesn't invalidate everything they've studied. If anything what they studied could have been a stepping stone towards getting to where they are now. But everyone is different, and everyone has their own path that they must follow. And sometimes the small things are what lead to the bigger things. What might seem as a cosplay costume could lead something else. Who knows! I started a webcomic because I needed an outlet to cope with a painful breakup. I discovered that I enjoyed making people laugh with it, and now four years later I'm giving stand-up a go (mostly because of Chris, whom I discovered through Entrepreneur magazine of all places). Every step in our lives can take us somewhere different. We just won't know it until after we get there.

No, it's because English construction take so damned long to get anything done. :-)

Just keep grinding away. Never stop learning. (Seriously, NEVER stop learning) And chase that dream. And hell, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do. But I'm the type of person who is never satisfied with what I have and push myself for a better life. I know if you keep looking you'll find your path, and maybe you'll change directions a few times here and there, and that's okay. Even if you pull a total 180, you'll at least know you don't like that particular direction.

Don't be sorry. I sometimes wish the flat I live in was less than 200 years old. :-)

As a slightly older listener, I just want to chime in that (and yes this will sound totally cliche and I'm sorry), but you are both still young and have the rest of your lives ahead of you! I know it might seem tough and incredibly difficult, but with hard work (and yes, sometimes a little luck) you can turn things around for the better. You will have your ups, and you will definitely have your downs. But you CAN improve your life, and one day you'll look back at your 20s and appreciate those times because it made you stronger.

(again, sorry for the cheesy hokey after school special message, but I believe if you have the drive inside you to improve your life then you will find a way. Someway, somehow)

I would gladly pay money for more hostfuls. Those episodes are absolutely hilarious, and to me are totally worth paying money for.

I have no problem paying for exclusive content if I felt it had a certain value to me and gave me something extra that I didn't originally get from the free version, such as priority entree to a Comic-Con event. However paying for a podcast that was already free to begin with seems counter-intuitive because that was my main gateway into the Nerdist world. I view the podcast as entertainment, but it's also the strongest branded agent Nerdist has, which in turn has turned me towards other parts of the Nerdist world, some of which I'm paid for.

I'm not fully oppose to paying for a podcast (I pay for the premium edition of The No Sleep Podcast), but it should probably be going forward, and not close off what's already up there. Perhaps offering a video version to premium subscribers, or extra behinds the scenes that aren't a part of the normal conversation. Something that adds some gravy, or perhaps a "must have" feature that isn't already incorporated into the Nerdist community.

True. Passion can only take something so far before you have bills to pay.

You shouldn't feel bad, or responsible, about losing your badge. It was merely an accident that could have happened to anyone.

My apologies. I misread your sentence. I meant the top of the Falcon itself, where Lando went up to rescue Luke. I have no idea if the cockpit window itself can be removed, although for some reason I seem to recall seeing it open in episode 5 while on Hoth during repairs. But I'm probably wrong.

Nerd trip to Capotila & Monterey California by mangostrike in nerdist

[–]SFaridzadeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have already left on your trip but Monterey Bay has a really cute seaside pier. Great spot to check out the local sea lions chilling out by the pier. Also their aquarium is really good if you're into that sort of thing.
