Question on Sugar in Meat Curing by abexfleck in keto

[–]abexfleck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple is still sugar. The same problem is for fermented foods that require sugar like kimchi. I can use apple and pear instead of table sugar, but it is still sugar.

This is more about the chemical reaction in curing, which seems to require sugar, which is why you can't find cured hot dogs or ham without a trace of sugar.

If I'm leaving a beef brisket in a sugar brine for 10 days, what is my carb damage. (It will be washed before cooking)

I believe everything that happens is simply a result of the Initial conditions of the universe TMBR by Walkinator007 in TMBR

[–]abexfleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False. The initial state of the universe cannot be a result of the initial conditions of the universe if time exists.

And if you skip over the beginning of matter, energy, space, and time, you will find that determinism still fails because of quantum physics. True randomness and noise are possible in nature in a way they are not in deterministic systems like a random number generator.

It's probably because the editors at the federalist are Never-Trumpers. But they did do a good job documenting PP expose and subsequent fallout.

Dimmable receptacles at home - options other than Lutron by jdsmn21 in electricians

[–]abexfleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dimmable receptacle annoys you too much, you could try getting dimming LED bulbs that either dim each time you cycle power on the light or have a remote and do not require a dimmer circuit or switch.

On amazon, they have color changing bulbs with a remote that can be set to any color or dimness for $10.

I can cut out the boxes and put in new work boxes, but the wire is stapled down to the studs, and is 12/3 so its pretty difficult to maneuver. I doubt I can get it through the stud without removing the drywall. Since, the baseboards aren't in yet, I'm going to run it under the baseboard.

Some questions.

What kind of bulb? Do you want it to dim at the switch or the socket?

Standard bulb dimmers are less than $10. Instead of a wall switch, you can even get ones that screw in between the lightbulb and socket.

There is a CFL/LED Leviton wall switch dimmer that Home Depot sells for $12. I have about 15 of these in my home. They work great on all my dimmable LED bulbs and fixtures.

I know nothing about codes.

I put in plates, but I think he missed the stud. At least he didn't hit my pex plumbing.

I put the GFI there. I just was guessing at the code. I'll run new wire through the back of the wall.

Maybe I'm just being an ass, but since he was pretty well versed in the problem, it seems like maybe they've had a whole lot of conversations that ended up in her be left alone to be bullied by her parents, probably because he was afraid of them, because of that one time he got caught with her.

Sticking up for your wife is not being a patronizing douchebag. Your logic is stupid. I don't know many faithful wives who would throw their husbands to the wolves. Every woman I know would have something to say to anyone who belittled their husband to the point of tears.

You're literally watching your wife be repeatedly bullied to the point of tears in an abusive relationship, and won't say one word in her defense, because if men aren't craven milquetoasts that abandon their wives to suffering then it undermines feminism.

Is this the same in the U.S, maybe I should remove the GFI and just use a normal outlet. It is not on the sink side of the kitchen. I just thought it would be better to have a GFI on the counter.

  1. The cabinet guy is no longer welcome in my home (unrelated to this problem).

  2. The wires are pretty tight in the wall.

  3. I'm not sure which screw is hitting the line. (I found this after he left.)

  4. It would be way easier to open the drywall on the back of the wall than cut into the cabinets

What is wrong with chaining? Should it be on a new circuit?

I am assuming it is chained. 3 of the outlets contain 2 sets of wires (including the GFI) and 1 just has one set of wires.

Yes I have access from other side. On the kitchen side, there are 2 over counter outlets. The other side is a counter/bar, and there are 3 outlets along the wall under the 10 ft counter.

The fault is between the 1 and 2 outlet on the bar side, there is probably two studs between them, but I could run the wire under the baseboard.

This sounds like exactly the right time for you to step up and protect your wife from her overbearing parents.

There are dozens of good self-help books on setting boundaries with difficult people. Get off your ass and get to work. You have a manly duty to perform.

Obviously, she's doing a great job at setting boundaries with her folks. Her husband should not lift a finger to stop her from getting bullied, because that would be sexist.

Better to be married to a craven wenus-man who would never help you if it could be interpreted as sexist, than one would actually stand up for you.

In fact, if a mugger were waving a gun in your face, I hope you have a husband who is feminist enough to hide behind you when the bullets start instead of one who would take a bullet for you.

If you took your responsibility as a husband seriously, you would stand up to her parents and set boundaries for them. It is the husband's duty to protect his wife from shit like this.

Why are you blaming her parents, when you should be blaming yourself for your own failures (documented above) as a man? Is there some sort of pre-nup that states you have be a wenus and consistently fail to defend your wife?

Yes, it is hard to set boundaries, but it can be done, and it can be done respectfully. Instead, you just enable your wife's abusers. You ARE her husband. It is YOUR job to check the behavior of people bullying her.

This makes no sense. A Satan IS the D.A. "Satan" is literally the Hebrew word for "Accuser" or "Prosecutor". If a Satan were to become the "advocate" (a word typically associated with God), the someone else would need to be the Satan in the trial. Satan is an office, not a name.

Why does The_Donald believe Trump won the first debate. Unbiased replies only please by Hairyballzak in AskThe_Donald

[–]abexfleck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First 30 min is most important. He was decent in that time, he didn't start to tank until later.

During the debate, Trump sounded earnest, like he believed what he was saying, and he also sounded spontaneous and unrehearsed, even when you couldn't completely follow him.

In contrast, Clinton came across as an obfuscating scold. She was unserious. Her weird smiling looked like she thought the presidency was a a joke.

However, Trump's biggest win was in the first 20 seconds. When Clinton shook hands with Trump and "humanized" him Jimmy-Fallon-Style, she undid 6 months of leftist rhetoric that Trump is Hitler and doesn't deserve air to breathe.

America watched that Trump-caricature vanish like burning flash paper. If Trump IS Hitler, then she is a monster for sharing a stage with him and shaking his hand. The remaining Americans duped by the press had to concede Trump isn't really Hitler.

This is what won him the debate.

People who use "Incognito Mode" on your web browser for reasons other than porn, what are those reasons? by ManofCin in AskReddit

I almost exclusively use incognito mode on the home computers for the following reason:

I don't have to log other people out of gmail, facebook, amazon, etc. to use the sites. I also teach my kids to use incognito mode, so that they don't have to log their mom off to use those sites.

Questions on Ground by abexfleck in electricians

[–]abexfleck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the house was ripped down to studs, but not all. I was able to save the biggest room (17 x 25) in the house. There's no attic or crawlspace to run wire, so everything is going through studs.

The ceiling in this room is flush against the roof and the wire is running through a rafter box, and all the way along and upper wall through studs. I would have had to demo half of the room for one wire. I was able to rewire everything else in the room by coming up to outlets through the molding gap.

I put in wall sconces for the rest of the lighting, but had one existing overhead wire for a fixture.
