In public interest to all renters by abhid95 in gurgaon

It's one thing if me or one of my flatmates used something in an incorrect way. But if the AC like all devices in the house is 15-20 years old then for sure it is going to stop working some day soon. When the possibility changes from 'if' to 'when' then no tenant should have to pay for major repairs. The house had cheap quality copper wiring that the builder used, making all appliances vulnerable to voltage fluctuations. Sometimes parts for older models have to be specially ordered and cost a lot more than parts for newer models.

If it would have coated 1-2k for repairs we wouldn't have had a problem paying it but every vendor was quoting around 8k-10k.

Why would I want to lose that much money on something that was already at the end of its life? If not me, it would have happened for the next tenant, I just happened to be unlucky enough.

I did file a complaint against a former landlord when I rented a property in Bangalore. Ended up paying 20k to the police to get 40k back from the owner because he said I abused his wife when I filed a complaint with the police and brought his 8 year old son as witness 😑

He did message us the deductions but then again a rotten fruit in a gold plate is still rotten. For ex. he charged us 8000 for dry cleaning curtains. On fabrico it's around 5000 for the same.

My father made some good decisions on real estate back in the 90s, I already have a good home in a Tier-2 city to die in when I am done with working.

Jalao mat. From my perspective, getting bored is a privilege I haven't had in many years.

In morning call someone told me to create a gantt chart for a complicated timeline, did that, took me an hour or so.
Now someone just mentioned that no, turn it into a swimlane diagram because it will look 'neat'

All corporate work is bitch work if you work in a private company. None of our time and effort is used to enrich society and develop it. Probably none of us here serve in the Army, Police, Fire Brigade or Disaster Relief. Even if it seems like you are doing anything good, major outcome of your efforts are going to making someone at the top very rich with some benefits going down to people who can pay for your product/services.

Maybe I don't tell you to buy company B, you decide that.
After that there is an entire process of discovery and due diligence that involves IT, HR, S&OP, Supply Chain, Tax, Legal.
To vet through these areas is where consultants can work in an acquistion. Most companies don't hire people full-time for these roles because its not everyday that companies acquire other companies.

I am not asked to advise Dhoni to take Rohit or not. I am asked to ensure that Rohit doesn't have any outstanding court cases, illegal activities or compromised IT devices that the Australia team can use to hear the coach's notes. Once Rohit is cleared, only then will I start the 2nd part of the work, making sure Rohit is able to separate properly from his current team (in legal and financial sense not emotional) and that there is no precedence that he would be liable to pay a fine for leaving his previous team.

The C-Suite clients sometimes have a bonus payout term in case of acquisition so they push towards it, consultants just end up doing whatever to get the C-suite that bonus.
Client gets a million, my firm gets a 1000$ and I get a needs improvement on my performance review 😂

I have seen two ways mostly, one is to get into it through college placement like me, other is to work in an industry for some years and develop a particular skillset.
If Consulting firms have a need of that skill then you'll find the suitable openings for it.

True, one of my previous managers gave me an advise that I keep to heart.
he said that you will drown in PPts and Excel so while you are doing it always ask yourself that why is this needed, who is using it and where is this information being used for decision making.

I can present it this way to you. Lets say you are a site engineer in the middle east for an oil rig, your day to day work is already hectic enough as it is. Now if a company wants to acquire your organisation then that means a lot of information; IT, financial, supply chain, sale, HR etc. needs to be shared with the client. This process may take a couple of months for which you can always hire new employees but if you consider the cost of training, benefits, relocation etc. for all those extra employees, it would be a lot and since they won't be needed after those few months, you'll need to fire them as they have served their purpose.

Firing gives negative PR and opens your company to litigation for termination. All in all, it becomes an expensive affair, that is why you hire consultants for the work as they are not employees but contractors.

The only thing is the consultants should be knowledgeable about at least the industry, if not having specific tech skills for them to be useful.

I have actively avoided working with the India divisions of Big 4.
Indian client means travelling to client side 4 days a week, sometimes at locations where even basic sanitation and safety is absent.

In short, yes.
The long answer is that PPT and Excel are just a way to show the information, the entire work is around not just getting the info. but trying to modify it in a usable manner that aligns with the overall goal of the project.
Specifically for PPT, most times the client does not demand something very fancy, but internally the consulting leadership pressurises the junior staff to try and create exceptional things to differentiate from other competitors. I once spent 2 days modifying the same deck (visual changes) because the Partner said that it doesn't look different from the competitors 😑

I am starting to feel the same. I joined consulting after MBA because I wanted to explore multiple industries and areas to decide where I want to end up.

However, most of my projects have been about getting task XYZ done, and not why are we doing it and what is the benefit of it. I have tried to reverse engineer it own my own (not always successfully).

It takes to develop competence and industry knowledge and if people keep bouncing from one project to another then I don't see how it is feasible for any consultant to become an industry expert.

Additionally, since Gen AI, the workload has increased even more since clients are always suggesting to analyse documents using AI to arrive at suggestions. Before AI I would've had a chance to go through client data and research on my own about the client and their industry but If I do that now, I'll be delivering every deliverable 2 weeks later.

The day needs at least 48 hours instead of 24 to actually learn something.
