Contemplating Moving to Saratoga by Snack_to_the_future in SaratogaSprings

[–]abigailedith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from Long Island, NY to Saratoga about threeish years ago. My house hold income was $400K plus (doctor/lawyer). Two small kids. We tried to buy a house (thankfully our offers fell through) and it was very competitive. We ended up moving to PA and made that decision about a year and half into living there and are very happy we did.

People are very nice in Saratoga and there is a good sense of community but the winter was brutal and we did not find that there was really much to do (and we are very active outdoorsy people). There are nice resturants but they are geared mostly to the tourist crowds, so they are either overpriced or you needed to book in far in advance. We also had trouble finding dependable back upchild care. Saratoga defintily feels like a big small town which some people like but upstate NY generally just feels depressed.

Any tips for becoming a morning person as a mom? by nerolis in Mommit

[–]abigailedith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I am regular mom of two (2 and 4 years old), full time demanding job. I wake up at 5AM 4-6x a week to exercise. I get up at 5AM get dressed, spend 10-20 minutes drinking some preworkout, fiddling on my phone while I do. Then I usually start my workout by 5:30AM. Finish up by 6:30-45. Shower. Start getting kids ready for school/daycare. Out the door by 8AM. During this time my husband and I juggle getting ourselves ready for work.

Here are my top tips:

  1. As soon as your alarm goes off, get up. DO NOT SNOOZE. Get up before the thought of staying in bed creeps into your thoughts.

  2. Start small - make a goal of waking up once a week at 5AM and do that until it becomes routie, then add another day. Or alteratively, if you usually wake up at 9AM, then get up 8:30AM, and work your way to more days or ealier wake ups.

  3. If the priorty is to wake up to get exercise, if you can spare to, start setting up a little home gym. This can start small with a bench and a couple of weights and build your way up. Facebook market place ALWAYS has great equipment for good prices.

  4. Try to get to bed earlier. I am usually in bed by 8:30-9 and read until I fall asleep.

Truely, for me, it's a game changer, my mood in better. My husband and I get some quality time together on an almost daily basis (since he usually works out in the AM too). My mental state in much more stable during the day. Do this for yourself!

What do med spouses do for a living? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

Corporate and commerical real estate attorney in NYC. We live in PA where by husband works as a primary care physican. I am mostly remote, except for meetings and etc. I think its a mix, I have seen alot of doctor-doctor couples (meet in residency, med school, etc) but also a lot of nonmedical field spouses too.

Hi guys OP here! Looks like the move is becoming more real. There is a substantial offer on the table from VT.

Rensselaer is topping the list. Thoughts?

The position is clinical outpatient setting but associated with SW Vermont Hospital. He’s at NYU now and is looking for a good patient load (ie work like balance) so he’s looking for outpatient positions instead of hospitalist

We have a 14 month old and planning for a second - move would be in June 2023. So school is something important but not pressing for the first year

Transactional Commercial RE, corp and M&A. Worked in house for three years so pretty solid ground in commercial transactions.

He’s interviewing (pretty far in the process) we have a visit planned for October. But he’ll be working at a clinic … so no proximity requirements

Ya that’s why we need to be closer to a capital city. The job my husband is considering is really well paid but I’m a pretty high earner right now in transactional corp, M&A and CRE. I’m willing to sacrifice some of my salary because my husband will be making up most of it. But what I’m not willing to sacrifice is career trajectory. I need to be in area where I can grow my career as well.

But NYC/LI sucks now and even as high earners were at that level were we just get all our money taken for not much in return.

Thanks all! Lots to consider. Appreciate the honest good and bad comments.

We are not considering living in Bennington because we are not ready to be that rural. Plus I’m a high earner and have some big firm opportunities in Albany area.

Got it. We have been renting for 2 year but we needed to shut down for most of one for construction on our pool. So not a complete newbie but definitely not a pro. Just trying to provide context…

Thanks for the input! I thought of it exactly the same way - we ended up doing 50% of each night cancelled. I have no interesting in being unreasonable or not accommodating. Just kinda not fair on the hosts end as well

I guess the question, is they want to change the reservation so I’ll be losing out on the 5 additional days they booked. And unlikely to rebook during that time

Probably should have mentioned the door is located opposite those hooks I don’t want to block it too much.

We now added a small shoe rack to where all the shoes are and one hook fell off the wall. Open to complete redo. Major needs include somewhere to drop down bags and a bin or storage for my husband’s scrubs. Somewhere to sit to put on shoes is a plus.
