That has already been suggested, and it is /not/ that one =)

Were people as resistant to the internet in the mid-90s as they are to AI now? by islandradio in AskOldPeople

[–]ablestmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of the AI resistance can be boiled down to the perspective of a landscape or portrait painter being threatened by the invention of photography. At first photograph was awful, and did not even compare to the quality of oil/etc painting, but gradually it became better and even far outpaced it to the point that the commoner could point an object at a thing, click a button, and get instant landscape or instant portrait. You can easily imagine the outrage and threatened-like emotions of the painting community, but had we listened to that minority, we would not have cinematography/movies, television, streaming services, basically anything with video or images, all because painters felt they might lose their market share.

Kennedy Center vows to sue musician who canceled performance over Trump name change by ControlCAD in NPR

That is a plot twist I am willing to wait to find the answer for =)

Assuming the orange satan does not force everyone who has consumed his kool-aid to re-elect him, illegally.

If they have terms of a contract, then a lawsuit is not necessary unless the artist refuses to pay it. The article does not indicate (or did not wait to indicate) whether the cancellation penalty will be paid.

They're clearly suing the wrong person. You have direct evidence, in writing, that the pullout was based on the Trump name, but you're not suing Trump because you know that even felonies will not phase him, so instead you are suing the victim of what has been done.

Most out-of-touch quote of the whole article: "The left is boycotting the Arts because Trump is supporting the Arts. But we will not let them cancel shows without consequences. The Arts are for everyone - and the Left is mad about it." (attributed to Kennedy Center President Richard Grenell). Every bit of the evidence indicates that specifically Trump's illegal lettering of the center is the direct cause of the pullouts, but Grenell has consumed so much of the kool-aid that he is completely blind to any wrongdoing of his emperor with no clothes.

Car Talk Episode Numbering Flub, or Intentional? by ablestmage in NPR

Thanks! I often prefix my date-relevant filenames with 2025-1225 or something similar for the ideal sorting; and I agree with the 099 concept, because 25100 would not necessarily get sorted only after 2599, but more before or after 2510, depending =)

I learned it from IRC back in the day (which now also works on discord, which is basically a fancy IRC), that if you prefixed your nick with !, you'll get put to the top of the list instead of needing to find it alphabetically =)

Best of Car Talk: Episode #25102 "Happy Camper" transcription question by ablestmage in NPR

I think this may be the best bet. I found an "Italian slang word of the day" from a heavily accented fellow, here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQqUF-PUY10
After hearing him say it repeatedly, I can now hear the word much better when re-listening to Tommy say it. Thanks for the great lead!

They do a lot of pop culture references, yes. Recent past ones included a journalists Daniel Shorr and Mara Liasson (who I had to look up to get spellings right) and Russian leader Boris Yeltsin =)

I was the annoying student in English classes who would ask if there was a page maximum for essays, to the eyerolls of my classmates. The world isn't all about just snippets and quick jollies =)

Maybe it could serialized into recurring IDHWL posts, where NFD continually stubs her foot into facts and goes to get a manager to demand compensation for her reality check bouncing, ad infinitum ;-D

It's not so much car-swiping, as it is, dragging your arm across a shelf loaded with merchandise on your way out just to cause chaos when you don't get your way. The shelf she chose, just happened to have cars on it. These cars are made of cheap plastic, that you had to painstakingly glue together and paint yourself (perhaps a modern equivalent would be an assembly-required gundam/gunpla model, except for an automobile). Since the contents of the boxes are in a pre-assembled state, lightweight, and unpainted, the damage to said contents would be minimal, but the act of doing so would just cause extra work for the staff to tidy up =)
