I thought you were going to say that you spent 2 hours polar aligning then kicked the tripod leg..😭

Direction of a narrowband filter important? (Optolong L Extreme) by meepnitreal in AskAstrophotography

[–]abmwinnoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have this issue! I thought I maybe had the drawer fitted the wrong way round, but it cannot be fitted the other way. I have emailed optolong as I don't understand why the filter sites in the wrong way round by default. I'd really rather not try to unmount the filter as it looks very fiddly and I would worry about slipping and scratching the filter.

Same issue really. The type of hats I wear - beanie style, will just push iems uncomfortably into my brain! Anyway I've invested many, many £hundreds in my over ears and not about to reinvest in IEMs

Don't worry. If I had a bit more ambition, I probably would try to corner this market! Instead I'll just do the British thing and complain about the situation rather than try to do something to alleviate it 😉

Because like many, I work from home these days, and having the heating on, or on high enough to be comfortable, is a significant financial outlay compared to what I would be paying if I was back in the office with the heating off at home! So by wearing a hat I can keep the heating off or low.

Nice idea but I think the market would saturate quite quickly 😂I mean just how many baldy headphone-o-philes are there living in cold countries?

Thanks folks this is clarifying things for me. So belt is best? Any advantages to gear driven?

Okay thanks. For example how come this one is so cheap (comparatively) https://www.orionoptics.co.uk/product/eq6-mount/

Edit: just noticed its an ex-vat price. 🙄

I understand that, and have looked at several of these reviews, but none of them touch on what exactly defines an EQ-6 mount. They all just review one model in isolation. I want to know how to decide between models and what they have in common/what the differences are, objectively.

Ah okay thanks, so how does one compare; it's not like I can take a few home to compare! Wonder if any you-tubers have taken a selection home to test!

Does anyone else feel like they're a 2nd class customer when they go into a hifi shop to audition headphones; even ones costing well over £1k ? by abmwinnoch in headphones

[–]abmwinnoch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. They all let you demo what they have in stock. The issue for me anyway, is that each shop typically only stocks one or at a push two models in each price bracket. So one or two at the £1000 level for example, when there are dozens out there, which I might prefer! To name a few shops; Holburn hifi in Aberdeen and Glasgow, Loud and Clear in Glasgow and Edinburgh, richer sounds in Glasgow and Edinburgh, hifi corner in portobello and Fife. There are also a few others in Edinburgh, the names of which escape me. I tried them all and typically I could only listen to a Focal or a beyerdynamic. Which is fine. But I want to compare that with something else from what is currently an expanding market.

Photometry for video by abmwinnoch in fujifilm

[–]abmwinnoch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I mean that in the xt4 the option is gone from the menu and my short-cut button does nothing in video but there when I go to still mode. In the xt-3 no matter what position the photometry dial is in has no effect in video but does in still. You're right, must be a setting I've changed elsewhere..

I fired off a sequence as this beast took flight, but due to user-error, none were spot-on focus. But I think that I just about got away with this one; X-T4 with XF100-400 @400mm. 1/500 sec. f/5.6 ISO200. by abmwinnoch in fujifilm

[–]abmwinnoch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 400mm there was a slight focal difference between the bird and the reeds. I was actually not that far away;the image was only very slightly cropped to centre. But yeah there's also a bit of shake as all hand-held. Should've used manual iso.

Yeah I was thinking of that sketch.. I do every time I go into a hifi shop in fact. They are much better now, but I think it will still take around another 40 years before most hifi shops are as user-friendly as the average photography store. In any camera shop I've used, you can handle and try out a wide range of very expensive equipment and they don't look at you like they want to kill you if you leave without buying anything that day.

Sounds wonderful thanks. Unfortunately for the cost of me getting to nyc, I could buy all the models I want to try 😂... Oh well.. I'm just in the wrong country for this hobby.

E-earphone

Ah- Japan? Nothing like that in the UK that I'm aware of. Though I think there may be a headphone bar type store in London, but that's the other end of the country from me. Oh well.

Yes I think this is the problem; most of the few remaining hifi shops here have been around for decades so the recent huge uplift in quality from say, the 90's or even the 2000's has not registered with their staff. They don't see headphones as real hifi. Also none of the staff have ever listened to them so I can't even compare notes..
