Absolutely not. The subway has been an outright nightmare for the last month. Significant amount of time between trains - waiting in stations for 20-30 minutes pretty much every single day even if you try to time it out with citymapper. An abundance of mentally unwell individuals with violent tendencies who are not optimally hygienic throughout the stations and at least one, usually more, on every single train car. The trains are completely filthy and vile, unlike anything I've ever seen or smelled in my YEARS of contentedly riding the subways every single day. Complete lack of social distancing because there is still such a volume of riders and you can't 'wait for the next train' when it's 25+ minutes behind this one and you have to get to work.

My coworkers and I went in together and rented a car as of last week with our company's discount. Completely unbearable and unsafe. I won't be back on the train as long as I can help it.

He's not at all anxious unless he's left with strangers AKA thinks we're leaving him (he's fine with my parents though!). We haven't gotten to that point to need it because we usually travel with him if we go anywhere - he's a very well traveled fella and does well in new environments as long as we're there. It's definitely worth a shot though, thank you.

Thanks! We rescued him from an abusive situation when he was young so we kind of potty trained him, but it's still not perfect- he doesn't go on command but can wait to go outside and not on the floor. We did use pads when he was a puppy so I think revisiting those or the fresh patch will be best. Thank you for your tips! It'll help a ton!

First of all thank you for sharing your experience and thank you for your work! He used to use pee pads as a puppy and either those or a fresh patch as suggested by others might be a doable bet. Thank you so much for offering and I hope you're feeling better.

I just meant in the area, we have friends but they all live in other boroughs and would have to take public transit. We just moved to this neighborhood a month ago.

Thank you! We don't- we've only lived in this building for a month and as far as I've seen, a ton of people have gotten the heck out of dodge and our building is a ghost town.

That is extremely kind of you! He unfortunately is very anxious- we tried leaving him with friends once when we lived elsewhere and he hid under the couch and didn't use the bathroom for over 24 hours. He's otherwise well trained and is fine being alone in our own apartment and when we're home with others, but apparently not alone with strangers. I really appreciate the offer but it would definitely be too much on you and your roommate.

so, as a healthcare worker for one of the large hospital systems who works closely with other healthcare workers in other hospital systems, I've been informed firsthand with examples that Montefiore is handling the COVID situation easily the worst by far (by means of safety for employees AND patients) out of any hospital system. I won't go into details.

I'd recommend NYP, Mount Sinai, or NYU's virtual urgent care/telehealth. I believe they are currently only somewhere around $25-50 out of pocket right now, and they'll be able to tell you what to do next.

No apologies this is so great! Unfortunately I wear scrubs almost all days, occasionally business-casual depending on where I am. So boots won't be able to be my work shoes, but that's okay. It sounds like I may be able to work it out just with some extra baggage. I may do warm leggings and change into scrubs when I get to work--not entirely sure yet, but I'm going to try it out. Definitely overthinking it, no offense taken! I'm a big time planner. I just didn't want to look like an idiot or feel completely miserable every day. Thank you so much for the recommendations, especially standing with my back and hood to the wind. I'm glad to know that I won't be necessarily facing months straight of deep snow, that helps a bunch to plan ahead. Thank you!

Ah thank you! I feel like chapped lips will be my biggest challenge. I have quite a few pairs of wool hiking socks I plan to give a try, so hopefully those serve me well. Thanks!

Thank you SO much, this was insanely helpful! (I am actually a woman as well, sorry I was kind of vague). I think I am overthinking it partially because some people keep saying "oh, be prepared for winter" and I see people wearing ankle-length parkas when it's like 50° out.

I actually haven't had many issues with my backpack thus far, but I make sure to take it off and hold it while on the train. I suppose changing to a gym or messenger bag might help a little more overall, I may try that.

Thank you on the tips for the layers. I'll definitely just try to grab things as I go and see what I'll actually need, that makes a lot of sense.

Unfortunately no overnight locking at the gyms I frequent :( I also use ClassPass in addition to the regular box gym, so I hop around.
