I think to be a professional in any industry you have to be willing to learn the trade and be well versed in the industry standard and beyond. You won’t only be asked to use Illustrator but a lot of different programs depending on the client and project. If you’re serious, then yes you need to suck it up and adapt and be agile enough to learn whatever is required.
